DeNA is an online service company, operating e-commerce and social networking websites along with its flagship mobile social gaming platform, Mobage. Established in Tokyo, Japan with the launch of an online auction service in 1999, DeNA has continued to create a stream of new business ventures that have propelled the company’s growth.

As a part of the Asia Pacific Executive team, Depinder was heading the Business Development for the regions of India and Middle East. The role was responsible for 360-degree development of the social-gaming ecosystem:

  • Launching the Mobage social-gaming platform to cater to India, ME, SEA and other developing markets
  • Developing payment & distribution systems
  • Establishing partnerships with game-studios

Managing the Indian subsidiary , Depinder’s focus was to harness the growth potential of Indian and other emerging markets across Far East Asia and MENA regions. Depinder’s main objective was to put together a bouquet of progressive and relevant technologies, customized with market specific nuances and to build business awareness and bottom-line growth.

Depinder's responsibilities include:

  • Formulation of new products, relevant business strategies and driving financial growth
  • Managing Balance Sheet and P&L account
  • Turnkey handling of Alliances, Joint ventures and Business partnerships
  • Maintaining relationships with top decision makers, mid management partners and third party partners, especially at the CXO level
  • Moving the entire sales process ending after the transition to an Account Manager. This includes taking an active role in the RFP process.
  • Forecasting on regular basis, (monthly, quarterly review towards the executive team) - Qualifying business opportunities thoroughly and manage the pipeline
  • Managing, coaching and developing the team

Achievements:

  • Launched various products: Mobile comics, e-book reader, Navigation applications and Traffic Management Systems, Social network
  • Worked with OEMs: RIM (Playbook and Smartphone), Intel (Mego Platform), LG Smartphone (Java and Android), Samsung (Android and Bada)
  • Content Alliances: Got international rights for popular local and international content:
    • Hasbro (Transformers), Archie, IDW (Star Trek, Dr. Who, Dick Tracy etc.), NTT Solmare - Manga Content, Harlequin (Mills and Boons Picture Books), Disney - India
  • Operators Tie-ups: Etisalat, Du,Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and Tata Docomo (India), Maxis (Malaysia), S.K. Telecom (Korea)

Lifetree Convergence Ltd. provides advanced Billing, CRM and Messaging solutions for telecom service providers, global enterprises and financial institutions across the world. The messaging vertical provides a 360-degree messaging solution to Telecom Operators, Media houses and other Enterprises. The solutions include an extremely robust and scalable Service Delivery Platform, wide range of Mobile Content, customised mobile solutions for Enterprises delivered over Text, WAP and IVR and Symbian, J2ME & Pocket PC based Client Applications for mobile phones.

Heading the sales for the Wireless Business Division, Depinder was responsible for the following:

  • Managing world-wide sales of approx. USD 3 million for the messaging platform
  • Manage Business verticals - Telecom Operator (Platform Sales), ASP services and the Enterprise Solutions
  • Manage Operator relations to ensure seamless delivery of ASP services and Enterprise Solutions
  • Resource planning
  • Product conceptualization and policies
  • Working with the technical team on the R&D and the development of the platform
  • Analyzing & finalizing project scope, time & resource allocations 

Achievements:

  • Successfully created and implemented the concept of “Managed Services”; end-to-end hosted Value Added Services and CRM solutions for Telecom Operators/Service Providers. The service was implemented in 4 mid-tier MTN group companies in Central Africa in 2007 – 2008 and expected to be major revenue vertical for year 2008 – 2009
  • Managed the end-to-end execution of a 1.5 Million-Dollar sale and implementation of the above platform at MTN Irancell
  • Developed new business concept of VAS delivery and payment over touch-screen kiosk for Retailers
  • Develop sales through third party tie-ups. (System Integrators)
  • Represented Lifetree in public forums like GSM conference Dubai and South Africa
  • Achieved the sales target of USD 3 million in the FY 2006 – 2007

In an entrepreneurial stint, Depinder managed a start-up dealing in providing customised solutions in the field of Electronic Security, Safety and Fire Systems like CCTV, Access Control System (including Biometric and Fingerprint Reading), Burglar Alarm, Fire Detection and Suppression Systems, (including Gas Suppression System for fire) etc for Residences, Offices and Industrial Establishments.

The venture dealt in products from HID, Honeywell, Paxton-Access, Texecom, Motorola and ELID etc and boasted of a high profile corporate client list included: UNICEF, UNFPA, Avaya Global Connect, Save the Children (UK), Oxfam (GB), Gujarat Narmada Fertilizer Corporation (GNFC), Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation (GSFC), Arvind Mills Ltd, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Tata Telecom, Contech Software etc.

Mirc Electronics manufactures white goods in a Joint Venture with JVC, marketed by the brand name “ONIDA”. Based in Surat, I was responsible for handling the sales of Colour TVs in the territory of South Gujarat.

Achievements:

  • Developed new distribution network in the territory
  • Introduced wholesale selling by large retailers, aiming to reach the interiors of South Gujarat and hence boosted performances and earnings of retailers and in turn increased sales and market share
