Work History

1995 - 2002 Held a range of English language teaching posts in Russia, Greece and Slovakia.

1991 - 1995 Whilst studying at Nottingham Trent University, I worked with homeless people with drug and alcohol problems with the Macedon (now known as Framework) in Nottingham. After that I moved on to Turning Point, where I worked with people with personality disorders.

In the 1980s, I trained and qualified as Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) at Saint James' University Hospital, Leeds. After working as a staff nurse on a male acute ward, I moved on to work for Leeds Social Services where I worked with people with mental health problems. I left Leeds Social Services to study for  a Communication Studies degree at Nottingham Trent University.

Jun 2004 - Dec 2008

International Communications Officer

Forex Club

This post came with a two-point brief:

  1. Develop a range of materials to teach people how to trade forex as a retail trader
  2. Advance Forex Club's international aspirations

Part 1 of the brief::

  • Co-wrote an ebook Making money on Forex: A manual with Slava Taran (owner of Forex Club)
  • Wrote and presented 6 films each approximately one hour in length:      An Introduction to Forex (Pro TV studio 2005) clip on youtubeThe Essential indicators (Aviteks studio 2005) clip on youtubeChart Analysis 1 (Aviteks studio 2006) clip on youtubeChart Analysis 2 (Aviteks studio 2006) clip on youtubeUnderstanding Japanese Candlesticks (Aviteks studio 2006) clip on youtubeCharting the Euro (Aviteks studio 2007) clip on youtubeThese films are currently available on and
  • Wrote a series of 10 email lessons, Forex Primer
  • Devised, wrote, designed and managed the Colt FX distance learning course, a 5-module 40-hour multi-media online course.
  • Created, developed, managed and maintained Wrote weekly newsletters Market News and ColtFX Late Edition, wrote and produced Forex Focus, a weekly wrap of forex action and delivered live weekly webinars show-casing the Colt FX trading system. Took the website from its launch in February 2008 to an average of 1500 visits a week and built up a mailing list of approximately 1000 addresses with a 27% opening average. Achieved this with very limited advertising: one banner over a 3-month period on the site.

Part 2 of the brief:

  • Created a software development company, applied for MSC status in Malaysia and then estblished the company in Malaysia. This company, staffed by former Forex Club employees, went on to service Forex Club's software needs. MSC application process was rigorous and  required a detailed three-year business.
  • Assisted in the establishment of Forex Club Financial Company, a New York based, NFA registered, retail broker. Liaised with various parties in the US and Russia and prepared/organised documents.

Working agreement with Forex Club came to an end in December 2008. The four and a half years I spent with Forex Club were full of challenge. Prior to this time, I had almost no business experience and my computer skills were limited to checking my email. I will always be grateful to Slava Taran, the other owners of the company and Forex Club's General Director, Nikolai Farima, for the opportunities they provided.
