A native of Los Angeles, Debra Kasirer has built a career as a community leader involved in cultural and educational advocacy, including the support of organizations promoting Jewish culture and heritage. She served on the Parents Association for the Sinai Akiba Academy, facilitating outreach initiatives to connect parents with the school's programs, including scholarships, school spirit activities, and social events. Debra Kasirer also served as Head of Annual Giving, presiding over fundraising campaigns that created scholarships and provided money for other projects. Debra Kasirer's involvement in education extends to the collegiate level. She served on the Board of Directors of the Hillel organization of the University of Pennsylvania. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Hillel at the University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Kasirer attended UCLA herself, where she studied audiology and speech pathology. In other activity, Ms. Kasirer supports Sinai Temple of Los Angeles, the Jacob Rose Foundation, and Ramah Camps. She has participated in events such as the 2012 March of the Living.
