Houston hedge fund manager Dave Coolidge has been working in the gas market for more than two decades. A graduate of Texas A&M, he holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial distribution. Shortly after graduation, he began working for Seagull Energy, where he gained valuable experience before joining early gas market pioneer Coastal as a trader for the Rockies/West Coast team. Over the next several years, Dave Coolidge held leadership roles in the gas market as vice president at a firm that later joined Reliant and as a principal gas trader for AAA Capital.
In 2006, Mr. Coolidge founded Velite Benchmark Capital Management. He led the natural gas hedge fund for nine years before his retirement in 2015. Under his leadership, the fund grew to $2 billion and was able to maintain high returns despite drops in gas prices. Under his direction, Velite Capital become one the United States energy markets’ best performers. Upon his retirement, he turned over management of the fund to Eric Bass, a trader that he personally hired in 2008.
