Summary

"I am an engineer by instinct and an educator by profession."

With over 20 years of experience, Ts. Mohd Darnalis is a Mechanical Engineer, Lecturer, Researcher, and e-Learning consultant who has played a vital role in guiding and mentoring students across different educational levels. His expertise lies in teaching various core mechanical engineering courses, particularly in the manufacturing/CAD/CAM field.

His passion revolves around leveraging technology to facilitate learning and address engineering challenges. He takes great pleasure in sharing the knowledge and experience gained throughout his industrial and academic career.

Described as self-motivated and a quick learner, he excels at working independently while maintaining excellent teamwork skills. His past experiences, combined with his interpersonal abilities, enable him to seamlessly interact with individuals and customers at all organizational levels.

He currently holds the position of Deputy Director at the Digital Center in Universiti Selangor, Malaysia, where he is responsible for implementing digital educational technology tools and strategies to support teaching and learning.

Previously he held the position of Director at the Digital & Multimedia Learning Centre in Universiti Selangor, Malaysia, where he was responsible for implementing the similar portfolio in a smaller division.

As the Deputy Director of the Digital Learning Unit, Digital Center at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), his leading role involved overseeing the introduction of digital technology tools and strategies to enhance the educational experience. This included collaborating with faculty and staff to identify opportunities for integrating technology into classrooms, as well as developing customized e-learning solutions to meet various instructional objectives. Additionally, he supervised the creation of multimedia resources, such as videos, podcasts, and interactive online modules, aimed at enriching students' learning journeys.

Additionally, he was responsible for conducting training and development programs for the staff at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL). This involved organizing workshops and seminars to enhance their digital literacy and proficiency in utilizing technology for teaching and administrative purposes. By providing comprehensive training, he ensured that the staff members were equipped with the necessary skills to effectively integrate digital tools into their work processes and instructional methodologies. This contributed to a more technologically competent workforce and fostered a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the institution.

One of his notable achievements in this position was the successful implementation of a new comprehensive online e-learning platform. This platform enabled students to access course materials, submit assignments, and engage in virtual discussions from any device. The platform significantly improved student engagement and retention.

Apart from managing the day-to-day operations of the digital learning and multimedia team, he played a pivotal role in securing funding for modern technology initiatives and establishing partnerships with external organizations to expand the university's digital presence.

Moreover, he ensured that the institution continued delivering high-quality education to students during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic struck and lockdown measures were implemented, he led the rapid transition from in-person to fully online learning formats. This involved providing support and training to faculty on using virtual meeting platforms and other online tools, as well as devising strategies to maintain student engagement and participation in the new remote learning environment.

In addition to supporting the shift to online learning, he played a crucial part in equipping faculty and staff with the necessary technology and resources for remote work. This entailed coordinating training and support sessions to ensure effective utilization of modern technologies and tools.

Overall, as the Director of Digital Learning and Multimedia at UNISEL, he successfully spearheaded the adoption of innovative technology solutions in higher education, resulting in improved student learning outcomes and increased digital presence for the institution. His ability to adapt and lead during times of uncertainty and change was particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he played a pivotal role in maintaining uninterrupted education for UNISEL students.

Prior to his coaching endeavors, he served as a graduate research assistant at the Institute of Research, Development & Commercialization (IRDC) in Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam, Selangor. During his four-year tenure, he actively contributed to several grants, including an Intensification of Research in Priority Areas (IRPA) grant. His responsibilities involved providing technical expertise in prototype models/rigs for testing, CAD data, and on-site hands-on support. Additionally, he was involved in a pioneering project with a local industry partner, where he contributed to the retrofitting of old milling machines into fully functional CNC machines, in collaboration with the FKM UITM.

His industrial journey commenced in 1997 as an intern at G-Tek Electronics Sdn. Bhd., followed by his appointment in 1998 as a hands-on maintenance technician at Fuji Electric (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. In this role, he was entrusted with operating a fully automated production line within a clean-room environment.
