In her role as Director of St. Christopher Academy, Darlene Jevne maintains duties that include the general oversight of the school’s operations. Darlene Jevne, who belongs to the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Washington Association of Secondary School Principals, also performs community service responsibilities at the local Seattle Children’s Hospital. During her career, Darlene Jevne has contributed to the successful education of more than 4,000 students. She founded St. Christopher Academy as a special education school in 1982 so that her son and four other boys would have an educational institution that met their unique needs, and Darlene Jevne has since grown the school’s reputation to one of the most renowned special education schools in the western U.S.St. Christopher Academy serves students with learning disabilities who enroll in the 9th through 12th grade. Many students at the school struggle with attention deficit and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, while Darlene Jevne ensures that children with some other learning disabilities are also welcome at St. Christopher Academy. Darlene Jevne also provides low student-to-teacher ratios that contribute to a more concentrated focus on each student. The individualized academic curriculum at St. Christopher Academy helps students with learning obstacles overcome those issues and succeed in a variety of subjects.Additionally, Darlene Jevne also finds that the development of personal, social, and study skills are an important part of every child’s education at St. Christopher Academy. To meet this end, Darlene Jevne provides approximately 30 clubs and extracurricular activities for students at the school. Other specialized services supplied by the professional educators at St. Christopher Academy include modified classes in foreign languages, student tracking services, individual assessment services and placement testing, tutoring and counseling, and access to the Edline online grading system.
