  • Provide remote technical support for multiple Quantum storage and archive products, on a wide variety of enterprise hardware platforms and operating systems.
  • Work with the customer or service provider to remotely troubleshoot a multitude of different SAN and NAS issues.
  • Created an end-to-end storage and archive solution using Quantum products in a virtual machine lab, which I use to help provide better support for Quantum customers.
  • Responsible for all of my own product training and updates.

Sr. Data Protection Engineer

My first civilian job out of the Navy.  I started out supporting and managing schedule jobs, then backup and restore operations, backup administration, and on to backup solution architecture and engineering.  The Nike support contract changed owners multiple times, but I remained in the same data center the entire time.  I left as the Lead Data Protection Engineer at Xerox for Nike's backup environments worldwide.  

  • Engineer and Level III Support for Nike's backup and recovery environments worldwide.
  • Built various tools for reporting, alerting, media management, and backup management with bash shell scripts.
  • Work closely with Nike management, System / Network / Storage Engineers, DBAs, and application owners to develop sound backup solutions.
  • Involved in multiple off-site Disaster Recovery tests.  I led the Data Protection Team for the final DR test that I was a part of, which was a success.

I worked my way from E-1 to E-5 in less than 4 years with consistently perfect review scores and 90+ percentile Information Systems Technician advancement test scores.  I finished my career an Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer responsible for a large portion of the ship's IT functions. 

  • Assisted with the initial installation of all network architecture, servers, and desktops on the ship before it was commissioned.
  • Lead Unix / Database / Storage Engineer.
  • Help Desk Supervisor of 10-15 junior and senior personal, providing support for all of the ship's users.
  • Developed and manged the server maintenance and backup processes with scheduled jobs.
