My goal is to work in GIS
In December 2012, I received my Bachelor's degree in Geography with a concentration in GIS.
May 2012 - Aug 2012
Planning and Community Development Intern
I worked mainly for the Planning Department but I also did some work with the Department of Public Works. I worked on downtown revitalization and the town's Master Plan. I did Census research to get the data for the Master Plan. I also gained experience designing brochures on Microsoft Publisher. I performed GIS work, which included a town map, a zoning map, property values, a proposed new park, downtown restaurants, and digitizing.
Aug 2009 - Dec 2012
New Mexico State
The map is a voting map of the ASU area in Tempe. It shows where schools are relative to the voting districts. It also shows how many voters are in the area. The point symbol is a graduated symbol which changes size (larger) and color when there are more voters. The map can be used to decide which schools would be the best polling places.
This is an example of Python Programming that I did for a class. We learned the basics of how Python programming applies to GIS.
This is a fishnet that goes along with the Python programming.
Labeling a street map using Maplex
Annotating a map
Creating a custom legend for a map
This shows a description of a vegetation map and the steps necessary to create the SIP
Some background knowledge may be required to fully understand this. But in a nutshell, this is an assessment of external interactions between a fire station as well as the Valles Caldera. There is also an assessment of security at a fire station.
This document deals with scale, minimum mapping unit, error, and metadata
This is my take on the Valles Caldera's GIS Plan. I came to these conclusions after checking out the data and business plan. There is also a slide about crime mapping, which was an assessment I made after checking out crime mapping data. While this crime mapping slide is not directly related to the Valles Caldera, we can learn something from it. Any time you're trying to implement a GIS, it can't hurt to check out other GIS's to get ideas. The data are not included on the power point, so I tried to explain as best as possible to give the reader a better understanding.
A map of property values for the Town of Franklin
Shows the locations of restaurants in downtown Franklin
Similar to the other downtown restaurants map, but this map has pictures
This is a parcel map with tax map annotation. The fire station property is highlighted on the map because that's where the proposed future pocket park will be. The map shows the fire station property as well as the surrounding area.
Aerial image of the fire station area. Map shows parcel boundaries and parcel numbers.
Zoomed in aerial image of the fire station
Map of the fire station area. Shows parcel boundaries and addresses.
Zoomed in aerial image of the fire station with the outline of the pocket park.
Zoomed in map of the fire station. Shows the outlines of buildings and the pocket park.
This is a map I made regarding a proposed zoning change for a municipality.
This is a town map I made at my internship. The map will be distributed to residents of the town.
