About Jamie

Jamie is naturally entrepreneurial in his approach to life. From a young age he has enjoyed finding the opportunity in every situation, from earning extra pocket money to helping running his father’s metal fabrication business at the age of sixteen.  He went on to take 4 science based A Levels before reading Biological & Medicinal Chemistry at Exeter University.  This led to Jamie embarking on a career in medicine but it became quickly apparent that he wanted his own business and in 2001 he began his first minor project as a property developer.

The next twelve months saw Jamie complete his first project, secure another and develop his father’s fabrication business to include air ventilation and recovery systems. This evolution saw the company’s turnover quadruple and Jamie’s prominent professional network was growing.  But it was the building/conversion work that really interested him and in 2002 Jamie completed his first significant conversion of a hotel into six flats.

For the next few years Jamie concentrated on conversions and large refurbishments involving bungalows, houses, chalets and apartments. 2005 saw him seize the opportunity to construct new build properties, completing a project of five 4-5 bed, high specification houses in West Hill, East Devon.  Similar developments followed including a striking barn conversion in Whimple.

Despite the successful completion of each project, Jamie was unable to avoid the devastating effects of the recession in late 2008/2009 and, like so many others, was forced in to bankruptcy. However, this hasn’t dampened his passion for the industry and since his discharge he has undertaken a number of schemes.  Whilst Jamie favours projects comprising of high-spec, detached houses he has ensured his construction company remains flexible, able to continue expanding his impressive conversion/refurbishment portfolio.

To date, Jamie’s company, Nexus Properties Ltd, has completed several new build projects including a 13 unit scheme for a housing association, a 10 unit open market scheme and the 5 bed conversion of a large church in Topsham. With three schemes presently nearing completion, early 2016 will see Jamie commencing a development of 15 units (10 open market, 5 affordable) in Lymsptone and a 10 units scheme (all open market) in Walton Gateway, Somerset.

Jamie has an extensive professional network and a reputation as a reliable and honest developer. Because of this he is frequently approached with land & development opportunities – and in early 2015 he decided to pool resources with another local developer. Dan Stones of 5D Solutions Ltd, based in Plymouth, has brought a wealth of project and programme management experience to the partnership and between them they have become involved in some exciting prospects. 5D Solutions is responsible for producing initial Desktop Feasibility Studies, forecast spend profiles, build programmes, sales appraisals and ancillary documentation for prospective funders. Coupled with Nexus’ knowledge of the construction industry and build costs, both Jamie & Dan are confident that the partnership benefits both companies and strengthens their chances of continued success.
