Assorted Skills

After several years of dairy farming I have acquired  various  skills including use of heavy machinery, namely tractors, front end loaders and fork lifts.

Also, ploughing and tilling of fields, use of PTO mowers, cutting, turning and bailing of hay, pest control and maintenance of trough water systems, water filtration systems, effluent control, fencing and building maintenance.

Emergency Managment

As part of the Waikato Valley Emergency Operations Area (WVEOA), I held a dual role including EM Officer for Hamilton City and also liaison for the associated TLA's, including Waikato DC, Te Awamutu DC and Waitomo DC.

This role included management of the Waikato Welfare Advisory Group, operational design and implementation for response to natural disaster within the City of Hamilton and also the greater WVEOA. 

Health and Safety

Having previously worked as a health and safety officer for a multi national company, I bring with me a host of experiences, skills and knowledge pertaining to New Zealand Health and Safety Legislation, policy implementation and enforcement.

I have a high personal standard when it comes to safety in the workplace for both my internal and external clients and of course for myself. 

Fire Fighting

Fully trained urban Volunteer Firefighter, including self contained breathing apparatus, pump/rescue tender, and patient extrication, with 5 years of experience (retired).   Previously I have been a Volunteer Rural Fire Fighter with Rangitikei District (NZ) and I am currently a member of the Rangitikei Civil Defence Response Team (NZ).

New Zealand Intermediate Life Support Paramedic

I practiced as a BLS Paramedic from 2007 - 2013, and have held an authority to practice with St John New Zealand at Intermediate Life Support Paramedic since May 2013.   I am currently a full time Paramedic for St John (NZ).    I have been practising on front line ambulance for 12 years.

Radio Communications

I have a personal interest in radio communications as an amateur radio operator, including the construction of radio antenna, both for general use, but also for emergency situations.   Adding to this with general setup. use and maintenance of two way radio communications in the HF, VHF and UHF bands.   Also, assembly of small scale electronics components.

Computer Use

I would describe my computing skills as being expert level, including use of a range of suites from Microsoft Office through to Open Office.   Also, proficient in the use of Windows and Linux operating systems, including networking and file sharing,  maintenance of systems, including hardware and software.   Some programming experience in Pascal.   Hardware assembly, including full builds of desktop computers and installation of various software suites.   Some basic experience in electronics, including limited electrical work, soldering, construction of small electronics components.        


My personal objective is to contribute to my community, gain valuable experiences, develop management skill sets in terms of team and resource management with a view to move into a role which requires efficient and practical management of both people and resources, grounded on solid experiences and academic knowledge, and a desire to grow and learn and participate in a professional team environment.




I have a personal interest in radio communications and the challenges faced with low power rural radio transmissions.

I have played guitar for over ten years and have a broad interest in music.

I love the great outdoors and tramp as often as life permits, and no so often, kayak, cave, rock climb and dive.
