  • Responsible for Engagement Managemet and business development across the eastern half of the United States. 
  • Responsible for creating C2O's go-to-market solutions and service models for Enterprise Portfolio Management. 
  • Consulting to the VP of IT Strategy and PMO of major Fortune 500 company in the Northeast to improve the Strategic Planning process and create an Enterprise Portfolio Management system to improve management of the organization's $250M+ portfolio of Busines and IT initiatives.
  • Wrote a White Paper called Enterprise Portfolio Management - Doing it "RIGHT" Makes All the Difference.  The paper describes Enterprise Portfolio Management, discusses why many organizations fail to recognize the need to improve it, and offers a compelling case study showing how one organization built a word-class Enterprise Portfoio Management system to manage it's $100M+ portfoio of major change initiatives and is reaping exponential returns.

Vice President Information Management

Responsible for leading the Information Management practice at Fujitsu Consulting that focused on systems integration efforts for major Content Management platforms such as Documentum and FileNet.

·Stabilized the Information Management practice after three executives were rotated in and out in the span of nine months.Reduced turnover by 25% and increased sales by 20% in first six months.

·Identified the need for and created a Regulatory Compliance solution and Go-To-Market strategy in the Financial Services, Healthcare and Consumer Products Goods markets that resulted in sales of $5M+ in first nine months of operation.

·Sold and led a $3M engagement that defined and created a Center of Excellence in the Integration space at a major Consumer Package Goods company in the Southeast. Defined and created design, build and run capabilities that enabled the organization to reduce headcount by 25% in COE costs by 30% over 2 years.

·Sold and led a $5M effort to build an enterprise wide Records Management capability at a major consumer products company in the Southeast. This engagement identified the need for a Corporate Records Management Department and enables the IT Director to get CIO and SVP Legal commitment to create and staff the Records Management division.

·Leveraged COE work to engage with SVP of Planning and assist in creating an IT Portfolio Management Solution that significantly overhauled the existing process and enabled the management of $100M+ of IT spend.

·Served as Engagement Director and strategic advisor for $5 Million B2B implementation.Recommended major integration strategy shift that resulted in 35% increase in exchange member adoption.

Director - Corporate Planning

Worked with senior executives in their efforts to create, prioritize and manage the company’s $250+ million IT project portfolio.

Select Accomplishments:

·Facilitated prioritization and management of a $250M+ portfolio of major corporate initiatives with the CEO, senior executive leadership and key department heads.This enabled cutting $50M+ in funding for lower priority and lower ROI initiatives from the portfolio in the first year of operation, and continues to contribute to Northwestern being recognized as "America's Most Admired" life/health insurance company by Fortune Magazine.

·Redesigned Northwestern Mutual's corporate planning and portfolio prioritization process to significantly

     improve strategic alignment, cross-functional coordination, resource alignment and cost control for major

     corporate initiatives across the enterprise.

·First of class of 25 IT professionals to be promoted to officer ranks at Northwestern Mutual.

Mr. Torkelson has spent the last 10 years in consulting sales and business development and has specialized skills in high value services sales.  He has structured and sold multi-million dollar services deals with senior executives across financial, e-business, pharmaceutical, retail and consumer product goods industries. 

Program Management (Large Scale)

Large scale Program Management is focused on managing $3 Million or larger corporate initiatives assure that the deliver on the intended business results.  By bringing together all the people, process, organziation and technology initiatives required to realize benefits,  Mr. Torkelson creates a true Business Program that ensures that both the Business and Technogy organizations are aligned and can deliver on the techical and business changes required for success.  Mr. Torkelson uses advanced techniques like Results Chains and Benefits Registers to assure that all the initiatives and measures are identified and that Business and IT actors are aligned, working together, and focused on delivering real business value.  A select few number of  individuals have the experience and skillsets to successfully manage these large initiatives and deliver on the benefits promised.

Enterprise Portfolio Management

Enterprise Portfolio Managmeent involves enabling large organization to optimize their portfolio of investments in major change initiatives.    Large organizations often spend $100 Million and upwards each year on major change initiatives designed to bring about significant change in the way to do business.    Mr. Torkelson has successfully built and managed Enterprise Portfolio Management processes that address the key financial, alignment, risk and benefits realization challenges required to optimize portfoio results.  Mr. Torkelson has enabled organziations to realize 30-40% improvements in portfolio performance through his consulting efforts.
