About Me

I lived in Massapequa, NY my whole life before moving to Fort Myers, FL in 2010.  In 2007 I graduated from Long Island University (CW Post) with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and I earned my Master's Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Adapted Physical Education from Adelphi University in 2010.  While at CW Post I earned the honor of being on the Dean's list in 2006 and I was a member of the women's soccer team.  After graduating from college I began substitute teaching in a number of schools on Long Island before  becoming the part time Physical Education teacher at St. Rose of Lima School in Massapequa, NY.  In the afternoons, after school, I began coaching soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, NY.  Prior to coaching at Our Lady of Mercy I was the JV "B" soccer coach at Kennedy High School in Bellmore and the varsity assistant coach at Mineola High School.  During the summers I was a camp counselor at Future Stars Sports Camp in Old Westbury, NY.  Since moving to Florida in 2010, I became a Physical Education teacher in LaBelle Middle School in LaBelle, FL.  I have also earned my Personal Trainer Certification and have become a Level 1 CrossFit Coach.

Interest

Outside of work I enjoy playing sports, watching sports, going to the gym, running, bike riding, roller blading, reading, scrapbooking, spending time with family and friends.

Why is PE Important?

EdNews Colorado (1.28.2013)

Study calls for daily PE classes

A recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine found that instituting daily physical education classes for children would boost moderate to vigorous physical activity by 23 minutes a day, more than one-third of the 60 minutes recommended by federal guidelines.

USA Today (3.8.2013)

Kids need to step up physical activity, reports say

A recent government survey found that only 29% of high school students participated in 60 or more minutes a day of physical activity on each of the seven days prior to the survey.

USA Today (4.14.2010)

Study: Physical activity can boost student performance

Physical activity improves kids' fitness and lowers their risk of obesity. And now a government review of research shows that kids who take breaks from their class work to be physically active during the school day are often better able to concentrate on their school work and may do better on standardized tests.
