Skills

Public and Media Relations

A main function of all of my work in East Africa has been public relations. I have a through understanding of development issues and how the public perceives both the challenges and successes. I have friendly working relationships with contacts in the media in print, radio, television, and on the internet in both Kenya and Tanzania. I am well versed on how to talk to the media and what is required to find a story, tell it, and publish it via the most appropriate channel for the audience. I am comfortable working independently or as part of a media team and can contribute in both leading and following.

Program Management
I can bring ideas to life. From conceptualization to impact study, I have seen the full cycle for a number of development projects both under my own leadership and as a consultant. I have lead teams both large and small and worked for a variety of clients from large companies to grassroots community based organizations. I have done Fundraising, Proposal Writing, Grants Management and Monitoring and Evaluation for different size organizations. I have produced and advised both qualitative and quantitative research from the field before and after projects.
Software Skills

I have an excellent commend of most basic software such as MS Office, Libre Office, several accounting software packages such as Quickbooks and Wave App, and through knowledge of cloud based applications and their implementation. I am an expert Googler and researcher of information on the web. Additionally, I can lead software development teams as the project manager and create new applications in a variety of languages using local East African developers.

Social Media

With over 50,000 followers all over the world, I use my social media identity to support change in Africa. I have extensive experience with different types of social media platforms and applications including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, LinkedIn, You Tube, Flickr, etc

African Experience

Africa is so vast I could never cover it all or go all the places I can imagine. However there are similarities in the basic human needs in each. I have lived in 3 countries in East Africa and visited 8. I am finalizing my paperwork this year to gain my Kenyan citizenship and have a Tanzanian residency permit valid for 2 years.

Journalism and Photography

My experience in Africa has made me into a journalist as I feel the need to document what I see around me. I have experience and knowledge about digital photography, can take great pictures with the right camera, and love telling success stories from Africa. I am very experienced with basic photo editing software and semi-experienced with Photoshop and GIMP. This is an area where I would really like the opportunity to build more skills as I have a natural eye for design.
