Educational Philosophy

English education is not about teaching students how to find the answers. It is about teaching students how to ask the questions. As Roland Barthes wrote, "Literature is the question minus the answer." In teaching English Language Arts, I try to assist students in seeing the multiple perspectives and limitless possibilities that exist when we investigate questions of the human condition. Preparing students to be competent, critical, and life-long examiners of their world is my principle charge in education.
