Elementary School Science Curriculum Coordinator/ Learning Support Specialist

American School of Kuwait (ASK) 
  • Collaborate with 70+ elementary school teachers and administrators to implement American Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Create a school wide scope and sequence for science education
  • Aligned the school's use of Full Option Science System (FOSS) Kits with the NGSS
  • Guide grade level teaching teams in understanding the core concepts of the NGSS and creating authentic assessments and Understanding by Design (UBD) units for science instruction
  • Co-chair the Science Vertical Alignment Team
  • Lead small groups of students in grades 3-5 to improve literacy skills, using Word Work, Guded Reading, Lucy Calkins' Reader's and Writer's Workshops, and strategies as outlined in Literacy CAFÉ and The Daily 5
  • Conduct Running Records assessments for students in grade 1, 2 and 5
  • Facilitated student groups in the creation of a school garden and applied learning opportunities such as participation in national marine conservation competitions

Middle and High School Science Teacher (Gr. 7-12)

  • Facilitated teaching team- administration relations as Department Head for the Middle School Science Department
  • Collaborated with the Science team to prepare and provide engaging, inquiry-based lessons based on the Common Core State Standards in the areas of Environmental Science, Earth Science, Oceanography and Grade 7 and 8 General Science
  • Guided the creation of a new spiraling curriculum for Middle School Science in the role of Department Head Created and implemented UBD plans to guide instruction and assessment practices
  • Designed and facilitated authentic assessments
  • Chaired the Science Fair for grades 9-12 and organized volunteers
  • Incorporated technology such as Moodle, Starboard, Google Apps and iClickers into daily lessons to enhance student learning
  • Organized and led field trips for authentic learning such as a research study on concentrations of marine debris on a local beach with over 20 students

Dalian Maple Leaf International School (DMLIS) 
  • Acted as stream leader for 2010-2011 Biology 11 team, creating course outlines and overviews
  • Prepared and provided energetic and pedagogically-sound lessons to ELL students in the areas of Science and Math
  • Collaborated with collegues to design, prepare and facilitate safe science laboratory experiments and graded authentic, valid assessment in the areas of Science and Math
  • Founded the first annual DMLIS Science Fair with colleagues with a student body of 2000 + students
  • Made available daily homework, class information, assignments, study aids and exemplars via a class website
  • Directed the DMLIS Model United Nations team from 2009-2011, travelling with approximately 30 students to 2 international conferences and organizing a local conference on our campus
