I have been in retail for just over 22 years, 20 of those in management positions. I am self-motivated and enjoy a challenge, thriving on developing a focused, capable team that deliver results. I pride myself on coaching, supporting and empowering individuals to be their best. No matter what the challenge, I will ensure my team are prepared and have all the tools they need to do a great job.

A passionate believer in life long learning, I have worked my way through the ranks from a cashier to multi site management of up to 21 sites. I have six years experience running my own successful convenience store and take-away business. I have worked for retailers at store manager and area manager levels, led and contributed to projects that have ultimately directly impacted and improved ways of working at a corporate level.

After spending 10 years in London with Sainsburys, I have recently relocated to South Wales with my family.

Retail Cluster Store Manager in Bristol

With over 300 colleagues in a 45000 sq ft store and 2 Sainsburys local convenience stores my role is to drive profitablity through great KPI performance and fantastic service. I need to set clear targets, lead, motivate and inspire a team of 15 managers to deliver their individual results to ensure the store succeeds as a whole. I also need to lead my team through change while keeping the team motivated and morale high.

Further key responsibilities include managing labour costs and coordinating recruitment of the right person at the right place and time. I oversee team delivery of training and colleague reviews, 'great place to work' groups, youth councils and succession planning. I also work closely with my cluster HR partner to manage performance, policy and results.

The departments that make up my store are online deliveries, TU clothing, GM, full meat, fish and deli counters, hot food and pizza, produce, fresh, petrol, dry goods and non food.

Area Manager Convenience in London

Vital elements of my role included planning and development to keep up with the expansion of convenience in London. I had responsibility for delivering and supporting growth across many channels, maximising sales and profitability, as well as providing and creating a stimulating and supportive environment in which my team of up to 21 store managers and 600 colleagues could prosper.

My area had the second highest takings in the country for convenience stores, with a varied demographic producing circa 37 million pounds in sales annually. I delivered my profit and service targets every year.

I drove, maintained and increased standards of customer service, improved team performance through clear target setting and by linking leadership style with development needs. I ensured all the relevant coaching and support was in place to enable my team to succeed, and to keep the business safe and legal. I also worked closely with my HR partner to manage labour, recruitment, succession and training.

My role was to create and then lead a team that were driven, focused, knowledgeable and independent thus delivering excellent results.

As a leader of multiple outlets, clear communication with groups and individuals was instrumental in creating teams that work together in achieving common goals vital to success.

Other key responsibilities included identifying talent and developing talent and succession plans for the future. I also ensured we landed new stores and refurbishments on time to a great standard.

I was nominated in this role for Convenience Area Manager Of The Year at the Retail Star Awards in my first year.

Aug 2009 - Oct 2010

Project Support and Lead in London Head Office

I worked on and supported numerous key projects that ultimately changed and improved the way we open and replenish new stores, creating consistancy across the country.

My role was to travel around the UK to gather information on current new store opening processes and interview colleagues across the business. I gathered data, categorised and broke it down to create a critical path to identify employees specific roles. I identified gaps in process and created new roles or accountabilities until we had produced a seamless process for opening new stores from start to finish.

My tasks also included working with other department leaders in Head Office encouraging them to take on new responsibilities and embrace change. I used my store knowledge to help me find solutions to a range of challenges, and my previous experience to secure commitment from the retail teams.

All projects are extremely successful and are now a current way of working that is key to the successful roll out of new stores across the country.
