Christiaan Beek

Christiaan Beek is currently holding the function of Director of Threat Intelligence, Malware Operations at McAfee Labs, part of Intel security. He's leading research in Advanced attacks, actors involved and assists in take-down operations. In his previous role at McAfee, he was the director of the Incident Response and Forensics for the McAfee Foundstone team in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, leading a team of forensic specialists. Beek is a securitysopher, defining threat intelligence strategy, and designer of threat intelligence systems, performing reverse engineering of malware, digital forensics, and forensic data mining, as well as coaching security teams around the globe. He is a passionate instructor and cybercrime specialist who has developed multiple training courses, workshops, and presentations. Beek is a contributor to the best–selling security book "Hacking Exposed."

Intel Security

As the director of threat intelligence, I’m responsible for managing a team that is tasked to investigate targeted attacks, gather strategic intelligence and apply to existing or develop new technology/methods to detect lateral movement, targeted attacks or improve malware classification. As one of the Co-designer of UI/Threat-priority model for a new product – we won the Intel innovations award 2015 and the Intel’s public’s choice award 2015 as a team for this product. Besides these responsibilities, I’m also coordinating the advanced research and assistance in take-down operations where we work in cooperation with global Law Enforcement. One of the highlights so far in this job was to teach a part of a master-class at Oregon State University around malware analysis and incident response. When I started, my team consisted of 6 people, currently managing a team of 9 directs and a total of 25 people that are responsible from the first response to the customer towards the advanced analysis and correlation with tactical and strategic threat intelligence.

Director IR & Forensics EMEA

McAfee Foundstone

As the director for IR and Forensics in EMEA I managed a team of forensic specialists who were engaged on a daily base in many small and some large memorable incidents in the world of targeted attacks and cybercrime. While supporting the growth and business development of the forensic and IR services in EMEA, also developed and build McAfee’s first Cyber Defense Centre in Dubai, including all technology, procedures, regional threat statistics etc. Designed McAfee’s Contextual Threat Intelligence Platform and implemented it in the CDC. Also I acted as the Spokesperson for threats in the media for the Middle-East region and spoke on several conferences. Teaching classes around malware analysis, scada-hacking in the region and twice a year teaching malware analysis classes at the Dutch Police Academy.
