I am a recent from National University with a both a bachelors and masters degree in Strategic Communications.  There have been many assignments and projects that I've participated in some way on.  I've been interested with public relations and campaign operations yet maintained my journalistic roots.  The virtual campaigns that I've used throughout getting my degree have been both diverse in their content and execution.

Having worked on the communications staff for the Iowa Senate Democrats writing public releases and creating video packages for radio and television come second nature to me. Ever since the creation of Facebook and Twitter integration both platforms into a campaign is a must. I am also a published author and journalist. I was the managing editor,

I have worked on the communications staff for the Iowa Senate Democrats.  I am able to create advertising campaigns with a social media twist.  I am also a published author and journalist. I was the managing editor, student-government reporter and a member of the editorial board of the Des Moines Area Community College student newspaper, The Chronicle.

As a student, I helped lobby the Iowa legislature for additional funds for Iowa's community colleges.  My colleagues and I helped develop DMACC’s associate of liberal arts journalism track.

My philosophy is simple: I believe as a communicator everything starts with writing.  Having the right strategy is important, but the execution is more valuable than ever.  It’s a given that we now live in a social media age… it’s embedded in everything we do, and it is my job to ensure the success of a company through great writing and social media.

Media and Journalism

I was the managing editor for the Des Moines Area Community College student newspaper, The Chronicle. I also sat on the editorial board and was the student government reporter.  As a member of the editorial board, I was selected to write the Chronicle's first-ever endorsement for a presidential candidate in 2004. It was probably the most fun I've had as a reporter.  Below is what I consider some of my best work.

I've done layout (mainly with Adobe InDesign) work for the Chronicle and for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mapleton 12th Ward, in Mapleton, Utah.

I also am a photographer and editor taking photos for the Chronicle and for the Iowa State Senate. As part of my photography interest, I know Adobe's Photoshop and Apple's iPhoto and Aperture very well. I've also done work with video and have extensive knowledge in Apple's Final Cut Pro and iMovie.

In 2006, I was on-air talent and producer for KDRA Drake University's local radio station in the 7 p.m. slot
