Web Developer and Database Administrator

Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design – Milwaukee, WI

MIAD is a small but focused art college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

  • Proposed, planned, and facilitated a major migration from Joomla! to WordPress, including all content and functionality of the old website and opening the door for many improvements in PCI, ADA compliance, and security
  • Implemented custom solutions for front-facing web applications, often in support of extremely complex business rules
  • Moved all web properties off of a cPanel based shared host to the Pantheon PaaS, enhancing backups, performance and delivery of web applications and content. This also greatly saved on hosting costs overall. 
  • Moved all codebases onto version control (via Git), greatly enhancing development and deployment strategies and allowing for increased ease of collaboration
  • Replaced old, insecure payment forms with an in-house Laravel-based student payment system powered by BrainTree, easing PCI compliance and entirely eliminating breaches and abuse

Powercode is the world's leading browser-based Network Operations Center (NOC) software suite for small to medium wireless ISPs. It combines SNMP network monitoring, equipment management, CRM, lead generation, customer billing, service call management, route planning, and many other features.

  • Worked closely with sales personnel to find and fix bugs reported by customers
  • Implemented a number of third-party integrations via RESTful APIs
  • Assisted in development of an agile development methodology closely modeled on Scrum, which allowed for better project development and quick iterations
  • Assisted in release notes and external communications of software bug fixes and improvements
  • Monitored UserVoice and our customer support forum to help identify issues and prioritize bug fixes and feature requests

Assisted in planning, executing, and observing support by indirect fire assets (artillery, mortar, and close air support) in support of the infantry elements on the ground. 

  • Maintained complex Unix-based tactical database systems
  • Streamlined and improved indirect fire response and counterfire procedure, reducing response times by almost 90 seconds.
  • Trained local and foreign police and armed forces in utilizing NATO and American indirect fire assets and procedures
  • Responsible for well over $100,000 worth of equipment and assets, incurring zero losses. 
  • Awards include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
