Cheri Hart has 25 years of experience in education and 15 years of experience in primary and secondary education administration. After obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas, Ms. Hart continued her education at the university and pursued her Master's degree in Education. She received her Master's in 1991 and the following year earned her Mid-Management certificate from the school. Cheri Hart later attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, where she earned her Superintendent certificate in 1996.
Beginning her career as a Kindergarten Teacher in 1986, Cheri Hart also taught 4th and 5th grade before taking her first job as Principal at Hunt Elementary in Cuero, Texas. While in this role, she raised test scores, revised the reading and math curricula to improve student performance, and wrote and received two grants totaling $293,000.00.
In 2004, Cheri Hart left Hunt Elementary to become Principal at Cuero Junior High School. In her time at the school, she raised 7th- and 8th-grade TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) scores and reduced discipline referrals by over half.
In 2005, Cheri Hart moved to the Temple, Texas, area where she served as Principal at Hector P. Garcia Elementary School. There, she worked with the Temple Independent School District Special Program Director to formulate a bilingual/ESL program for the school. She also worked to improve fluency and comprehension rates on the TPRI (Texas Primary Reading Initiative) early reading assessment test by instituting the Read Naturally program. Recently, she increased test scores in reading and math by over 20 percent. Ms. Hart currently works for Cotulla Independent School District in Cotulla, Texas.
In addition to her work as educator and administrator, Cheri Hart belongs to a number of professional and community organizations. These include the Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association, and her local branch of Rotary Club International.
