2010-2011 Technology Director & Music Teacher - Turning Point Learning Center

As Technology Director and Music Instructor Charlie had the responsibility to find and integrate new technologies into all courses as well as monitoring network activity, troubleshooting school network connectivity, maintenance, repair, and inventorying of school computers. In the position of music instructor Charlie worked with 5th-8th grade students in the Face2Face program as well as home-schooled chil- dren in the K-8 Virtual Program. Responsibilities included creating and managing the orchestra, band, rock band, choir, junkyard band, piano, guitar, and world percussion classes. Additionally Charlie worked with virtual (home-school) students in person and through Skype to facilitate individualized vocal and instrumental lessons.

2009-2010 Technology Director & Global Studies Teacher - Turning Point Learning Center

Charlie worked closely with his co-teacher, Ginger Lewman, to provide an exciting global curriculum for all students grades 5-8. This position included the added responsibility of monitoring network activity, troubleshooting school network connectivity, as well as mainte- nance, repair, and inventorying of school computers.

2008-2009 Director of Math & Science Integration - Turning Point Learning Center

As Director of Math and Science Integration, Charlie was responsible for all lessons, projects, and testing in these subjects. Additionally, this job required working with other staff members to integrate these content areas into a holistic curriculum.

Gifted Facilitator

El Dorado Public Schools

As gifted facilitator Charlie had the responsibility to manage the Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for gifted students K-12 within the district. This included leading the collaborative process of creating the plans with parents, students, and other school staff. In this position Charlie also organized a cooperative of gifted facilitators in Butler County to provide added services and opportunities for high ability students throughout the area. In his last year in the district Charlie was also integral in restarting the high school AP program and won a grant for the district to receive $14,000 in interactive distance learning equipment to be used in their first Global Studies and Chinese Language programs.

While working on his music education degree Charlie sold guitars, basses, amplifiers and accessories at Shorts Guitars. In addition to acting as a commission based sales person dedicated to customer service, Charlie also managed a portion of the incoming and outgoing inventory for both the guitar and band shop while maintaining the cleanliness and order of the shops.

Home Audio Sales

Best Buy

As a retail sales associate Charlie was responsible for sales and general daily maintenance of the home theater department at the West Wichita Best Buy store. Though Charlie began his work at Best Buy on the merchandising team and spent a few months doing Loss Prevention the majority of his time was spent in home audio sales.

Charlie completed his degree with an emphasis in special music education qualifying him to teach and direct music programs ranging from PreK through 12th grade instrumental and vocal music as well as working with music in the special education classroom.

Charlie completed his masters degree in Gifted Education, which qualifies him to teach Gifted and Talented students between Kindergarten and 12th Grade. This educational experience was integral in developing keen problem solving skills and the ability to organize teams of high ability members to complete difficult tasks.

Music Performance and Composition
Having a music degree and strong passion for music has given Charlie the opportunity to work on his skills in Composition, Percussion, Classical Strings, Bass, Guitar and numerous other instruments.
Video Production
Charlie has been using iMovie, Final Cut, Adobe After Effects for a number of years for his own personal video creation as well as projects with his students.
Audio Recording, Mixing, and Production
  Using Logic Pro and GarageBand and the occasional Windows application Charlie has been working in independent audio production since before he began working on his undergraduate at Wichita State.

Management and Leadership Profile

  • Technology Director for Turning Point Learning Center, a 1:1 laptop school (140+ MacBooks), Duties included teacher training, troubleshooting and repairing network and hardware problems, coordinating inventory and ordering equipment.
