Career Skills for Youth

Provide technical assistance and “coaching” to youth development/employment systems and initiatives on national, state, and local levels. Focus is on improving long-term placement and retention outcomes. • I have supported a variety of workforce projects including US Dept. of Labor (DOL) Career Pathways TA Initiative, YouthBuild USA TA Collaborative, DOL-School District Project Workforce/Youth Development Training, NYC Young Adult Internship Program, Foster Care Youth Demonstration Projects. • Work with various individual agencies and national training agencies such as Department of Labor; SPR; YouthBuild USA, ICF International, NYEC, Casey Family Programs, STRIVE, YDRF and others. • International: I have supported various career readiness projects including: Macedonia Youth Employability Skills Network (via Education Development Center and USAID), Kosovo Youth Employment and Participation Program (via EDC and USAID), Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute (via EDC and USAID) to implement a Career Center, Off-Location: Supported workforce development projects in London and Argentina • Facilitate group strategic planning sessions that create long-term staff buy-in and organizational results. • Provide various experiential-based staff trainings to youth development practitioners including Principles of Youth Development; “Creating a Career Culture in Youth”; “Conversational Interviewing”; Workshop Facilitation; Workforce Development; Graduate Services, Retention & Follow-up

YDPI is a collaborative professional development project formerly supported by the Department of Labor. • Served as Associate Director of YDPI prior to becoming Project Director in April 2004 • Provide general oversight for all YDPI related activities including planning and convening national sessions, regional and local “classroom-on-wheels”, and facilitating on-line services and training • Since its creation in Oct. 2000, YDPI has trained more than 3000 youth development practitioners. • Oversee the on-going curricula and program development and trainer selection for YDPI

Work on Youth Policy and Performance Team where I primarily supported ARRA-funded Summer Youth Employment Initiative and related WIA Youth Activities. • Project lead in development of new work readiness measure as sole summer performance outcome. • As evaluation liaison I worked closely with Office of Policy and Research Development (OPDER). • As technical assistance liaison, I coordinated training and TA to 10 local areas through TATC. • Provided direct technical assistance in two local areas saving over $10,000 in TA contract costs.
