Over the course of 25 years, Charles M. Fernandez has amassed a number of notable achievements in the areas of mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring, leading efforts at private and publicly traded firms in the investment banking, health care, and radio broadcasting sectors. As an integral member of the executive team at Fairholme Funds, Charles M. Fernandez spent nearly four years building the company into a thriving fund manager despite the pervasive climate of economic uncertainty. Serving simultaneously as President of Fairholme Capital Management and Director and Vice President of Fairholme Funds, Mr. Fernandez helped position the company for the honor of Morningstar Domestic Fund Equity Manager of the Year in 2009. In addition, Charles M. Fernandez co-developed two distinct funds at Fairholme, managed three multibillion-dollar mutual funds, and generated consistent, strong returns for investors.In an October 20, 2011, Forbes magazine article titled “Struggling Fairholme Capital Loses Top Manager,” Bruce Berkowitz, Managing Member of Fairholme Capital, said of Charlie’s departure, “I’m sure Charlie will do well in whatever he decides next. Prior to this, he served as a Director for Lakeview Health Systems. Among other current activities, Charles M. Fernandez sits on the Board of Directors of the Miami Children’s Hospital.Earlier in his career, Mr. Fernandez served as President and CEO of Lakeview Health Systems, President and CEO of Big City Radio, Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee for IVAX Corporation, and President, CEO, and Chairman at Continucare Corporation. Other roles held by Charles M. Fernandez include Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Director of Heftel Broadcasting Corporation. Charles Fernandez holds a B.B.A. in Finance and International Business from Florida International University.
