Summary

Former U.S. Army officer and attorney Charles Holland of Los Angeles currently serves as a Visiting Professor at UCLA’s Department of Film, Television, and Digital Media, teaching advanced television writing and promotion. Holland previously taught Advanced Television Writing as an Adjunct Professor at Colombia College of Broadcasting and was awarded the Certificate of Distinction in Teaching for his performance as a Teaching Fellow in Government and Psychology at Harvard University. As an entertainment attorney, Charles Holland used his Juris Doctorate to manage litigation and employment arbitration and to supervise attorneys in the legal department at 20th Century Fox Films, where he served first as the Director of Business Affairs and then as the Vice President of Business Affairs. Holland continues to act as a consultant in business and legal affairs for film, television, and music talent, and the negotiation and drafting of media and distribution agreements, as well as talent contracts and rights clearance. Part of Charles Holland’s experience in the entertainment industry comes from his work as the President at Silent Scream, Inc., where he was tasked with managing script production, casting, and pre- and post-production for several television series, including Soul Food, JAG, Playmakers, and Profiler. Charles Holland has also written story content for shows such as CSI Miami and Murder One. In addition, Holland created, wrote, and marketed Butcher Knight, a graphic novel published through Top Cow Comics. From 1998 to 2004, Charles Holland served as a Board Member, Vice President, and then President of the Writers Guild of America, where he pushed for strategic change and innovative diversity progress within the industry.
