Product Design Technician

As a product design technician I compete with competitors to create a product that not only outperforms but under prices a competitors product. I have to take what a customer says they want, anticipate their needs goals and requirements and formulate the best performing product possible for the anticipated price point. I must meet chemical, visual, physical and economical properties both as defined by the customer and their customers. I use the full extent of my knowledge and abilities to complete each new business opportunity with emphasis on speed, formulation familiarity and customer communication.

Research and Development

In R&D the focus was on testing physical, chemical and Visual properties of new raw material sources. These was also a focus on creating new Standard operating procedures and new testing methods and protocols. Some initiatives I ran were creating a new, more accurate, method for testing the level of carbon black content in multiple polymers, testing new automated machines for precision and accuracy versus our manual protocols and standardizing operating procedures for spinning fiber.

We would fix properties such as: color, viscosity, tensile strength, IR profile, heat tolerance, purity, particle size, moisture retention, active ingredient concentration, UV stability and specific gravity.

As a machine operator I learned fast and soon felt great pride knowing that I had surpassed my mentors. I doubled the production of any other operator and set a new expectation for the position. I kept the work station spotless and kept my nose to the grindstone. I feel I proved my worth and work ethic through this position and I brought the same mindset to the lab.
