Transdev plc

Transdev plc is the UK division of Transdev SA, Europe’s 4th largest public transport operator

§Responsible for all Corporate Service functions across the Transdev plc - “Corporate Services” being HR, IT, H&S, PR, internal/external communications, legal, and including  aspects of risk management, internal audit services and internal controls/corporate governance.

§Responsible for the management oversight of Transdev plc’s UK tram businesses.This includes the joint venture (with Nottingham City Transport) operation in Nottingham and Transdev Scotland Limited, the team who will run the tram in Edinburgh once construction od the system is completed.  Successfully completed the negotiation with transport initiatives edinburgh (tie) for a unique and innovative partnering contract.

§Transdev nominated Director and representative for a number of organisations in which Transdev is involved (including Arrow Light Rail, the concessionaire for the Nottingham Expreass Transit scheme).

§Responsible for the creation and management of the Transdev plc Marketing and communication team

Strategic Rail Authority

Originally recruited to address and improve the business performance of the SRA in a number of areas and to ensure alignment of organisational competence with business goals.Amongst other things, this included improving the business planning and monitoring/review processes, developing processes for integrating organisational goals and individual’s personal objectives and improving the Executive and Directorates’ understanding and management of risk.

§Directing, co-ordinating and delivering the effective closure of the £3.7 billion, 500-strong organisation following the DfT Rail Review, which included setting up and providing effective relationship management with the DfT, Scottish Executive, Wales Assembly Government and other key stakeholders

§Management of the remaining resources in the SRA to ensure functions and people were transferred smoothly and obligations were discharged in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations

§Responsible for the development and production of the SRA’s Business and Corporate Plans and for providing internal business planning support and co-ordination for the organisation

§Implemented process and systems for improving the Authority’s business performance and overall business planning processes, including: delivering ongoing business improvement; continuing organisational competence development; ensuring high quality internal communications

§Improved the Executive and Directorate approach to the management of risk

§Monitored and reviewed the progress of improvement actions and on the delivery of Corporate, Business and Transition Plan commitments, ensuring mitigating and contingency plans were in place where necessary.

§Director and Deputy MD of the Consultancy Business, comprising more than 150 professionally qualified staff, providing operational, economic, engineering and management consultancy services for both the day-to-day operations and management of railways and for its future strategic direction.

§Responsible, together with the MD, for the overall financial performance of the business, which in FY 2002-03 delivered a margin of nearly £3m on a turnover of around £12m, representing a continued growth in margin.

§Responsible for the overall strategy, financial performance, business development, management and direction of consultancy services in both rail and aviation sectors, including the identification of new service development and associated training needs.

§Provided consultancy advice to a number of private and public-sector clients, including Rolling Stock Companies, train and signalling manufacturers, Network Rail, London Underground, Health and Safety Executive (HSE/HMRI), ORR, DfT and the Civil Aviation Authority.

§Developed AEAT Rail’s Management Consultancy offering, enabling the business to deliver strategic management and business critical services solutions to its clients.

§Significantly improved the organisation’s commercial acumen and customer focus.
