After completing pre-med studies at the Sigtuna Foundation (Sigtunastiftelsen) in Sigtuna, Sweden, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney worked toward her medical degree at the Karolinska Institute School of Medicine (Karolinska Institutet) in Stockholm, Sweden. Graduating in 1990, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney moved to the United States to begin a residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. At John Hopkins, she focused her attention on obstetrics and gynecology. After completing her residency, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney moved to Southern California to pursue a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Long Beach Medical Center through the University of California, Irvine. While attending the university, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney continued to add to her knowledge, taking courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, and genetics. After leaving the university in 2000, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney began working as a Perinatologist, employing her skills at both the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. At present, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney acts as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist with the Obstetrix Medical Group, based out of both San Jose and Los Angeles, California. In addition to her work in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney also functions as a researcher and writer, with works appearing in such peer-reviewed publications as the American Journal of Perinatology, Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Journal of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and the Journal of Endocrinology & Metabolism. Furthermore, she contributed chapters on gestational trophoblastic disease and breast disease to The Johns Hopkins Manual of Gynecology and Obstetrics, as well as a chapter on vaginal misoprostol administration for the book Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney holds diplomate certification through the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Inc., and is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Teratology Society, and the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists.

That maybe due to maternal or fetal issues I take care of all different kinds of high risk problems such a maternal medical/surgical complications affecting pregnancy, consultations, fetal abnormalities, advanced ultasound, prenatal consultation, prenatal diagnostic procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, fetal echocardiography. I am board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Maternal Fetal Medicine My special interest areas are in ultrasound, genetics, prenatal diagnosis, teratology and preterm birth.
