Introduction

I have been working for renewable energy company, Pacific Hydro for over five years in two communication and community engagement positions.

I started out in an administration position before being promoted to look after the Sustainable Communities Fund.  Since then I have been working as the Sustainable Communities Fund Coordinator overseeing the development and delivery of four funds worth $240,000 a year and as the Community Engagement Coordinator managing the community relations activities in communities with wind farm projects in the development and operational phase. I find both these roles challenging and rewarding.

I am an enthusiastic, strong communicator with exceptional relationship building skills and a high level of adaptability. Working in the Communications team means that, although my role is predominantly managing the Community Fund and engagement activities, I am at times required to drop everything and assist the Communications Manager or other team members to deliver strategic media, community or government initiatives.

My role as the Community Fund Coordinator was a new role, and therefore had minimal guidance and procedure in place. I was required to use my initiative, strategic communication knowledge and project management skills to develop the program into an invaluable community relations tool for Pacific Hydro as well as providing an easy to use, beneficial program to the communities in which we operate. The Sustainable Communities Fund is now replicated by most other renewable energy companies in Australia.

I am excited about the opportunity to further develop my skills as a community engagement and communications professional.
