Labor Relations
Leveraged best practices, provided guidance and consistency with HR programs - succession planning, training, compensation, benefits administration, organizational development, personnel and performance management, etc. Spearheaded contract interpretation (grievances and arbitrations), work practices (overtime, absenteeism, drug testing, job postings, etc.), and organizational design initiatives for 10+ years. Knowledgeable of labor contract administration, state and federal laws and NLRB regulations. Implemented labor contract under hostile conditions involving 500 bargaining unit employees after impasse. Influenced cultural transformation through effective, consistent interpretation and application of negotiated contract language resulting in reduced arbitrations, lower absenteeism, reduced overtime, random drug/alcohol testing, tiered weekend relief workforce and improved safety performance. Grievances and arbitrations were reduced 70% within 18 months. Building employee commitment, attaining business objectives, and creating effective labor management relations were critical challenges.
