A longtime leader of nonprofit organizations with many years of experience in broadcast journalism, Carmen Maria Montiel currently serves on the board of directors of UNICEF. She was formerly a member of the board of directors of the Institute of Hispanic Culture, and she served as chair of the organization’s 43rd Annual Gala de las Americas in October 2008. At the 42nd Annual Gala de las Americas in 2007, Carmen Maria Montiel and her husband represented the royal family.
Most recently, Ms. Montiel served as an office manager with the Texas Institute of Chest & Sleep Disorders P.A. She spent time producing the syndicated TV show Ritmo Latino, which featured a wide variety of Latin artists, for the film and video production company Provicom. She also covered the 1992 GOP Convention for Telemundo and hosted a network morning news magazine on Venevision. Ms. Montiel holds a bachelor of arts in broadcasting and Spanish from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.
