With more than three decades’ experience in educational leadership in New York state, Carl Militello most recently spent three years as Superintendent of Niagara Wheatfield Central School District, where he instituted innovative academic support, character education, and leadership programs. Initiatives included an eighth-grade acceleration program for high-achieving students and an improved special education program at the elementary level. In addition, Carl Militello introduced and quickly expanded the district's first prekindergarten program and developed a new adult continuing education program. Carl Militello held his first teaching position at St. Joseph's School for Exceptional Children in Fredonia, where he taught special education. A year later, he became a High School Special Education Teacher and Director of Adult Education at Lake Shore Central School District in Angola, which he followed with an Assistant Principal position at Eden Junior/Senior High School. He advanced to the role of Principal six years later. As Principal, Carl Militello instituted a number of professional development and student support programs, including a focused homeroom program for struggling students. His accomplishments in this role led to his first Superintendent position, which he accepted in 1997 with Wellsville Central School District. He reduced the district's budget by $825,000, developed the concept for a variety of neighborhood schools throughout the district, and implemented new teacher evaluation processes. Carl Militello went on to institute numerous improvements as Superintendent of Dunkirk City School District and, later, of Carthage Central School District. Over the years, he has also developed an interest in counseling, and for nearly 30 years, he has served as Assistant Professor in the New York State Drinking Driver Program at Erie Community College. Carl Militello has completed extensive coursework in school administration as well as counseling, and he holds several New York State teacher certifications.
