As a barrister, I spent over a decade advising the British government on public law - mainly specialising in human rights the law of the EU. I helped negotiate the European Constitution for the UK, drafted legislation and defended the UK in European Courts. I was one of Lord Goldsmith's backroom lawyers at the Attorney General's Office. I'm now managing a seriously freestyle career, doing a variety of things: writing, about law of course but also about politics, culture and ideas; teaching, public speaking and even a bit of podcasting and broadcasting; and various types of consultancy work in law and related areas, like professional regulation and dispute resolution.
