Corporate Director Experience

2012  Board Member, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. Appointed by Governor of Virginia.  MWAA oversees Washington Dulles International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, the Dulles Toll Road and the $6B Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project through Dulles International Airport.

2010  Member, Governor’s Economic Development and Jobs Creation Commission. Technology Subgroup.  A Virginia Commission of 60 business, education, and civic leaders from throughout the Commonwealth who were asked to conduct analysis and make recommendations on economic development policy.  Over 90% of recommendations made by Commission were enacted with bipartisan support by the 2011 General Assembly.

2009 – 2011 Board Member – VisualCV.  Venture-backed multimedia resume and corporate recruiting solution.  As acting CMO, recruited PR and social media agencies, marketing staff, and oversaw corporate launch including successful positioning, messaging, corporate website, search engine marketing and optimization, partner marketing and media outreach.

2004 – 2010 Board Member, The Langley School.  Independent School for Preschool – 8th Grade with 475 students and $11M revenue.  Co-chairman, Nominating Committee, served on Governance, Financial Aid and Communications Committees.  Instituted the first communications audit for 60 year od institution that significantly improved communications and relations with diverse internal and external stakeholders; achieved record fundraising.

2001 – 2004 Board Member, Inova Health Care Services. Northern Virginia's leading not-for-profit healthcare provider, with $1B in revenue, 16,000 employees serving more than 1 million people annually.Raised awareness and resources to support recruitment, retention, and scholarships addressing NoVA nursing shortage.

2001 – 2004 Board Member, Northern Virginia Technology Council. NVTC is the membership and trade association for the technology community in Northern Virginia and serves 1,000 companies from all sectors of the technology industry representing 200,000 employees in the region.  Founding member NVTC TechPAC, the largest nonpartisan PAC promoting technology business policies in Virginia’s General Assembly.

Clients include Open Software Associates, a venture-backed cross-platform software development company, and Australia Post, a $5B government business enterprise that provides postal, retail and financial, logistics and fulfillment services across Australia.

Angel investment and advisory fund focused on early stage consumer and enterprise technology companies.  Analyze prospective portfolio companies, advise entrepreneurs and senior management on marketing, management and business development direction to achieve growth and operational objectives. Portfolio companies have included VisualCV, Rollstream, EnterpriseDB.

$25million private foundation that used innovative approaches to inspire employees of webMethods, Inc. to invest in education nonprofits that help low income families achieve their potential.

Recruited executive director, board of directors, defined mission and provided oversight and governance. Over 60 nonprofits received grants, management advice, and volunteers. Nominated for national Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Award.

weMethods is an enterprise software company that pioneered business-to-business integration, e-commerce, and business process management solutions for Global 2000 corporations.

  • Provided marketing and management leadership at all stages from inception, through venture funding, IPO, expansion into Europe and Asia Pacific, to annual revenue of $200+ million, and 1,100 employees worldwide.
  • Led strategy and execution on brand and positioning, online marketing, lead generation, advertising, partner marketing with Fortune 500 companies, public relations, analyst relations, events and customer conferences, sales support, and market research.
  • Negotiated successful national partner marketing agreements with major brands such as Microsoft and SAP.
  • Best known for rigorous analysis to deliver ROI. 
  • Co-chair of multi-disciplined management team that successfully integrated acquisition of Active Software.
  • webMethods was acquired by SoftwareAG in 2007.

America Online was a $1.6B internet service provider, email service, and online community with revenue generated from user subscriptions and advertising.  Led development of from corporate website to launch as search portal.  Managed UI research, technical development and New York agencies to define business model and rollout new portal products.

Low + Associates

$15 million market research and marketing agency serving corporate, Federal, and nonprofit clients.  Led development of direct marketing services, including winning $5million in new business. Managed multi-year national campaigns for US Public Health Service, National Health Service Corp., Indian Health Service.

Low + Associates was acquired by Crosby Marketing Communications.
