Navy Captain David Schnell commanded two U.S. warships before his recent military retirement. He currently serves as General Manager of Los Angeles Metro Express Lanes, coordinating this program for the Americas Commercial & State Government Transportation Group. An enthusiastic community leader, Mr. Schnell also volunteers his time as the Executive Director of the San Diego charity organization Christ Kitchen.From its central metropolitan location, Christ Kitchen works to feed homeless individuals, families and others in need throughout the greater San Diego area. Working in conjunction with local churches and religious groups, the organization serves nutritious meals to hundreds of people each week in its downtown dining room. Christ Kitchen’s team of dedicated volunteers also prepares hundreds of meals for delivery to homeless and indigent citizens of San Diego wherever they may be. In 2011, the nonprofit group announced that it would begin cooking and serving food six days a week. Financial contributors to the Christ Kitchen initiative are encouraged to send donations by mail or by secure electronic transfer.
After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, Captain David Schnell took a position as general manager with the Los Angeles Metro Express Lane program of the Xerox's Americas Commercial & State Government Transportation Group. Captain David Schnell also serves on the board of directors at Walden Family Services, a California-based organization specializing in adoption and foster care.Walden Family Services was founded in 1976 as a means of moving foster children away from group home environments and into more stable single-family households. Today, Walden Family Services is recognized for specializing in care for foster children with developmental disabilities and special health needs. The organization hosts some of its own fundraising events, including the annual Wine D’Vine dinner, which in 2012 alone raised $70,000.Walden Family Services has partnered with First 5 of California to provide free parenting classes for teenage parents with young children. Currently, the organization is working on its Summer Camp 4 Foster Youth initiative, which will allow 33 foster children with developmental disabilities to attend a needs-based summer-camp.
A dedicated United States Navy officer who spent 27 years in military service, Captain David Schnell currently works as the Executive Director of Christ Kitchen. This organization, based in San Diego, offers free meals for individuals in need in the area. Schnell most recently served the Navy as the Commanding Officer for the USS Peleliu, an amphibious assault ship. Responsible for execution of the ship's $12 million annual budget, Captain David Schnell remained focused on ways of cutting costs and using all resources to their fullest potential in his leadership role.Prior to serving on the Peleliu, Schnell worked as a Staff Officer for the Chief of Naval Operations Deep Blue Directorate. His role as Principal Technical Advisor and Subject Matter Expert for the Chief of Naval Operations utilized his skills and knowledge of new concepts in warfare. Schnell also served as a Commanding Officer for the USS Ford and as Surface Operations Officer for the 5th Fleet Headquarters. He has been deployed to the Arabian Gulf several times, and was chosen as one of the Navy’s representatives on the State Department's Task Force for terrorism and weapons of mass destruction policy and military strategy.During his time as an active duty officer in the Navy, Schnell implemented anti-piracy strategies that averted several pirate boardings of merchant vessels in the Gulf of Oman and the Indian Ocean. David Schnell is currently enrolled in the Terrorism and Counterterrorism Studies Master's program at Henley-Putnam University, and he expects to complete this curriculum's required courses by January 2013.
