I am a technology marketing executive with over 20 years of leadership experience in mass storage systems and software. I have a broad range of experience in working for companies from start-up firms through large enterprises and with product lines ranging from entry level products to very sophisticated storage systems, software applications and SAN switching, routing and virtualization products. I have had P&L responsibility for product lines with over $2 billion in annual revenue and have experience in building and managing budgets. I have a proven track record of product management and marketing successes and demonstrated ability to lead strategic planning processes using analytical ability to drive to decisions.

As Vice President of Marketing for ProStor Systems, a start up in BoulderCO, I drove all in-bound and out-bound marketing activities, built the team, launched a unique compliant archiving product, gained ISV support and won a product of the year award. Specific accomplishments included:

  • Crafted and executed a comprehensive integrated marketing plan and launch strategy for the InfiniVault appliance
  • Gained key industry influencers support for ProStor and the InfiniVault demonstrated by press articles and analyst coverage
  • Established Channel Marketing and delivered the ProAlliance Partner Program
  • Set up lead generation process and implemented on-going lead generation programs coincident with the InfiniVault launch
  • Submitted InfiniVault for SearchStorage Product of the Year and won the Bronze award

As a Sr. Director at McDATA, I lead new technology and business initiatives as well as industry analyst relations, market research and marketing operations. I was also responsible for all aspects of product management and product marketing. Specific accomplishments included:

  • Product management and marketing for the development and launch phases of McDATA’s highly successful Intrepid 6064 and 6140 Directors and the first two generations of Sphereon fabric switches
  • Marketing leader on the Advanced Architecture team in defining longer term 3+ year product strategy and roadmap
  • Drove large cross company technology initiatives such as the SANtegrity Security suite and SAN Virtualization software and hardware
  • Business Development lead to seek out and negotiate deals with technology partners McDATA needed in their ecosystem
  • Produced business analytics and market requirements for new products
  • Supported sales by working closely with OEM partners, such as EMC, IBM and Dell, to gain preference for McDATA with programs such as SAN security, SAN Virtualization, Director foot print, ports on demand bundles supported with collateral and research
  • Marketing lead on due diligence for acquisitions and strategic investments including: CNT, Sanera Systems, Nishan Systems, SANavigator and Aarohi Communications
  • Primary contact point for industry analysts to promote McDATA’s products and vision
  • Managed the Marketing Operations group which handled pricing, sales program performance metrics and business metrics
  • Delivered numerous research projects including needs based SAN market segmentation as well as geographic and vertical growth and spending studies which were used to help guide McDATA’s business

Connex Inc / Ridge Technologies

As VP of Marketing, I was responsible for all aspects of marketing for a SAN software and NAS appliance start-up company. Connex delivered on the first open and comprehensive SAN management software and a unique NAS system. Connex was the new name for Ridge Technologies which was purchased and later spun out of Adaptec. Ridge was focused on SRM software and Enterprise Class disk storage. Specific accomplishments included:

  • Defined and delivered SANavigator software, the first comprehensive open NAS and SAN management software application which is still in use today
  • Defined and delivered the N3000 NAS system targeted at the SME market
  • Business Development work with potential SANavigator licensee’s such as Legato, Veritas, Tivoli, LSI, Brocade, and Vixel
  • Developed PR and outbound communication plans
  • Marketing lead on acquisition due diligence with Western Digital Inc.
  • Defined an industry leading disk array for the emerging NT Data Center market to deliver Enterprise class features at an NT price point
  • Defined a completely new comprehensive storage resource management software platform leveraging Apple MAC paradigms to change the rules on ease of use
  • Developed integrated marketing plan and launch strategy for Ridge’s first disk array product

As Group Marketing Manager for the Network Storage Products group I had responsibility for product management and marketing for a $2 billion dollar storage business. Some specific accomplishments included:

  • Key member of the strategy team which defined and implemented product strategies that grew Sun’s storage revenues from $35M dollars to over $2B dollars annually
    • Introduced Sun’s first Enterprise Class Storage products
    • Introduced the industry’s first Fibre Channel Disk Array
    • Introduced Sun’s first Storage Software Applications
    • Introduced Sun’s first SAN products
    • Introduced Sun’s first Enterprise Class Tape Automation Systems
    • Introduced many innovative storage products for the workstation group
  • Business Development work with ISV’s such as Veritas and Open Vision to complete Sun’s storage solutions portfolio
  • Managed the product management team and all storage product lines from single disk drives to complex disk arrays and tape automation systems
