Education

Education

B.A.

California State University

I completed my degree at Cal State Fullerton.  After moving here from Michigan and living in Fullerton for three weeks, one windy day I looked out my window and realized in fact, there are mountains out here.  Who knew?

Undergrad

Michigan State University

Started off my college experience at MSU majoring in Communications with an emphasis in Advertising.  But alas, it was way too cold, so I picked up all my worldly possessions and moved out to California where I got my BA at CSUF.

About Me: And What I Can Do For You

I am a passionate marketer with "in the trenches" expertise in brand development, community building, web and business development, and strategic planning with an obsession for finding a better way.

I’ve taken my experience working for some of the best companies around and applied that to starting a few companies of my own. I’ve been elbow-deep in all aspects of not only running a business and all the logistics that entails, but developing and marketing a brand, optimizing client acquisition strategies and developing strategic business alliances to improve my overall performance all on a shoestring budget. Trust me; I know what it takes to get things done.

Before my full-out entrepreneurial leap, I was a founding team member of Be Jane, Inc., an online resource empowering women through home improvement, (www.BeJane.com), I helped grow our team of four in Los Angeles to a nationally recognized brand with 50+ people and more than $1 million in revenue in its second year with content across web, print, radio and television with major partners that included MSN, Bank of America, Better Homes & Gardens, RYOBI, Sony, and more. I was also able to pen a deal which syndicated our content to more than 250 newspapers and other media entities across the US.

Prior to Be Jane, I was instrumental in developing the online marketing strategies and new media presence of several high profile brands such as Nestlé, Honda, 20th Century Fox and NBC. In my role, I ushered in solutions to meet the clients’ business objectives ensuring we met their ROI targets. My strong understanding of both front-end requirements and back-end development was instrumental in leading highly diverse teams to achieving strong performance results.

I continue to use my experience, enthusiasm and dedication to meet new opportunities which challenge my skills, feed my passion and allow me to do what I do best – build brands.

Project Management

I’m an amorphous liquid, I fill the spaces that need filling. I’m the yin to the company’s yang – where they’re looking for an extra push, I have spikes. I’ve managed projects where neither the product nor the technology existed, and led the teams successfully through them. I’m comfortable with weirdness, in fact, I revel in it. I know that the only certainty is uncertainty. I PM, therefore, I am.

MS Project

Call me strange, but yes - I love it! I love Gantt charts. I love to determinine resource allocation by billing rate and cost rate. I love it all.

Creative Development

A master at transforming a strategy into a creative concept - and then executing each of those delvierables on time and on budget.

Brand Building

From start-ups to rebranding established brands - I know how to get inside a consumer's head, think like them and help reposition the steering wheel to get everyone where they should be going.

Production

Where there's a what, I can execute the how. I get stuff done. Effectively, efficiently, on time and on budget.

Web Design

I started in web design in 1996 when I still had to convince my clients that the Internet wasn't going away. With time comes knowledge and the desire to simplify. I understand the details and know how to translate it into laymans terms for the majority.

Online Brands

How is your brand portrayed online? Today, online is everything because you don't have control over all the content, but you can help to shape the conversations.

Strategic Planning

Where there's a problem, I'll help to map out the solution. Lead the team and fill the holes to get us from A-Z. Effeciently, effectively, without killing anyone.

WordPress

I've worked with developers to build several WordPress sites. I've added new templates, new functionalities, new plug-ins and managed the content. I'm comfortable with it and yes, I get it.

Google Analytics

How did they find our site? From that keyword, they went down this path and purchased that item - ah, yes. It's all here in Google Analytics. Now, to take this data and optimize, optimize, optimize!

SEO/SEM

Yes, Google loves to change the algorithms as regular as some of us change an outfit, but by keeping up with the basics and constantly updating content in a smart way, you can begin to tame the beast and achieve high results by combining SEO and SEM.

Monotizing Online Communities

Content is king. And the king must have jewels in his crown. When you have good content, there are those in need and willing to pay for it. Why not create a strategic partnership or two in the process?

MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

Daily, minute-by-minute. Yes, of course.

Dreamweaver

Before there was WIX or WordPress, there was Dreamweaver. Combining WYSIWYG with HTML coding - I've learned to get sites up, maintain and optimize them.

Photoshop

A hobby turned to self-education. Yes, I can give him three eyeballs, if absolutely necessary. However, my time is likely better spent turning off those layers and saving out a hi-res jpg for vendor delivery.

Publicity

While working with Be Jane, one of the companies I co-founded, I got us to the point where we were averaging one National TV appearance/mention per week and almost one local print mention/day. Not too shabby.

Graphic Design

More of a hobby than an expertise. I've done this for my own companies, I know what goes into it and that makes me better at managing the process/deliverable.

Business Development

My experience lies mostly in expanding business with existing clients. By exceeding their expectations on current projects/deliverables - it helps to make the upsell that much easier. I've also participated in RFPs and pitches.

Interior Design/Home Improvement

It's a passion, but it helps with my job too. Really. Knowing how to manage construction projects helps to manage production projects. Knowing what works with what in design helps me to manage marketing and branding. Trust me, it works.
