Further Details of Current Position

Anglogoldashanti are currently busy with feasibility studies to deepen some of the existing mines in order to expand their current life of mine. One of these studies is at Moab Khotsong mine and I have been appointed in February 2007 to determine the project's vent and refrigeration requirements, which will be presented to the board of directors in October 2008.Moab Khotsong mine (AngloGold Ashanti) is located in the Northern Free State near Orkney in the Northwest province, South Africa. A feasibility study is currently underway to target the reef body between 3100m and 3600m, below surface some 2.5km to 4.0 km, from the main shaft system. Based on a maximum production rate of 150kton/month, it was my duty to liaise with the Strategic Project Planning team assigned to the Zaaiplaats project, in order to:Define     Planning parameters and assumptions for the projectDetermine     Overall ventilation requirements     Mine total heat load     Operational refrigeration requirements     Occupational environment monitoring requirements     Occupational hygiene requirements     Capital requirements related to ventilation, gas testing, self contained self rescuers, fans, and      occupational hygiene requirementsDesign     Macro ventilation system, and test this system on micro scale for critical production periods     Refrigeration strategy     Chilled water reticulation strategy     Air cooling strategy
