Business Overview:
An online gambling (sports betting & gaming) operation based on proprietary software developed and maintained in-house and fully licensed by the UK Gambling Commission.  Forecast to turnover in excess of £150 million in 2015. [90 fte]

Role:
Reporting to the CEO my role was to develop and scale the key strategic areas of customer operations, programme/project management and product delivery as the business grew from startup stage.  Additionally I provided regulatory compliance support to the business and oversight to the HR team.

Key Responsibilities and Achievements:

  • Established and led a programme structure that overcame the challenges arising from a growing development team trying to deliver concurrent work streams.  This structure enabled comprehensive requirement gathering, strategic decision making and provided shareholders and senior management full progress visibility during the course of project delivery;
  • Established and grew the customer operations team from 1.5 fte to 12 fte and led the implementation of suitable back office systems as the team grew driving constant performance improvement through metrics and team development;
  • Established and led the multi-disciplinary Product Delivery Team to coordinate the gathering and development of requirements pre-backlog to drive the prioritised feature backlog for the development teams.  This represented the first stages of extending the agile development approach out into the wider business;
  • Ensured the on-going regulatory compliance of the business. Appointed AMLRO with responsibility for all AML/CFT compliance and liaising with the UK Gambling Commission;
  • Responsible for successfully delivering the company’s UK Gambling Licence in October 2014;
  • Ensuring the on-going resourcing of the business with my HR team recruiting and retaining the wider team. In the 12 months from Sept 2013 we grew the team from 25 to 90+ fte and introduced a performance management structure in 2015;
  • Influencing company shareholder’s decision making in relation to the on-going funding of the business.

A direct to consumer mobile entertainment service provider based on in-house technology and marketing directly to consumers through an in-house team of creative designers/producers, marketing executives and media buyers. [43 fte]

Role:

As a Director and COO reporting to the Board I was responsible for the management and oversight of day-to-day operations of the business (software development, marketing & design, IT and finance) providing services to Director led business verticals.

Together with my management team we developed and grew the services available, supported by appropriate business processes, controls and management structures, to drive sales and revenues for the business verticals.  Additionally I was responsible for managing the company cost base and ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance in a highly regulated sector. 

Key Responsibilities and Achievements:

  • To provide a stable platform for the provision of revenue generating services through an end to end software development and maintenance service for business verticals;
  • By implementation of appropriate processes and controls we supported and drove the business growth to be a market leader in Ireland with revenues in excess of €12 million per annum;
  • To facilitate and support the marketing team in driving sales and customer retention with full agency level creative and marketing services including online, press and TV production and media buying services.   Marketing budgets were in excess of €3 million per annum and performance was optimised using innovative performance tracking based on direct response;
  • To manage and communicate progress to the Board through company-wide programme and project management services;
  • To ensure on-going regulatory compliance with advertising and premium-rate regulation;
  • To influence the strategic direction of the business as a Company Director;
  • To oversee the HR management of 40+ staff;
  • Key influencer in securing external funding to spin out our Gambling/Gaming business unit (BetBright.com);
  • Spun out a mobile charity donation platform (likecharity.ie);

Role:

Reporting to the Commercial Director I was responsible for the end-to-end product development process for specific new product lines, designing and managing post-launch product improvements, business support services and business process optimisation for new and existing product lines.

Key Responsibilities and Achievements:

  • The development of broadband products and value-add services from initial concept to full commercial launch.
  • I was responsible for the end-to-end  delivery process (comprising: commercial proposal, 3rd party supplier negotiation, requirement specification, project management and service roll-out) to launch six significant product lines at Irish Broadband - VoIP, DSL, DSL for Schools, Multi-Connect, MPLS on DSL, Teleworker Solution;
  • Full project management of all development projects;
  • In-life operational management of specific product lines (Corporate data connections, consumer VoIP service, Bitstream DSL, Broadband for schools);
  • Management of key external relationships;
  • Project management of key commercial projects;
  • Introduced and implemented PRINCE2 as a company-wide project management methodology.

  • Execution and coordination of spectrum reviews and the presentation of practical and innovative technical solutions to meet strategic requirements;
  • Conducting public consultation processes presenting options to relevant stakeholders and shaping policy with stakeholder input;
  • Operational management of specific licence schemes assigned to me;
  • Chairperson of a national forum of licensees and industry tasked with improving the regulatory environment for Fixed Broadband Wireless Access (FBWA) in Ireland;
  • Implementation of all policy and regulations for licence-exempt short range devices in Ireland;
  • Secretary to European (CEPT) working group on development of the 5.8GHz band;
