Working for Kaiser Permanente on an enterprise Data Warehouse and BI initiative.

Centralizing the 8 KP regions for Pharmacy into a single information footprint for analytics and reporting.


Consulting with an aerospace manufacturing business in the Midwest replacing  the existing IT infrastructure and MRP.

 Virtualizing the existing production environment with VMware into multiple environments for stability.

Resulted in hiring new staff and enhanced capability to design in flexibility around MRP configuration which will allow a future e-Commerce initiative.

Senior Director - Enterprise Data Services & Corporate Systems

Reporting to the CIO and member of the Executive Committee. Responsible for a team of up to 90 individuals spanning Business Intelligence and Corporate Systems. Managed the team that migrated strategic Data Warehouse functions from an outsourced vendor back into the company under budget and time. Responsible for savings of over $2M in outsourced data driven costs and regained control over corporate data strategy.Responsible for over 80 critical applications for HR, Finance and Legal.

Senior Manager - EDW and BI

Levi Strauss Inc

Position represented a turnaround opportunity. The existing EDW infrastructure was not performing to expectations. I was called in to re-energize the team into performance tuning the existing NCR platform. This was accomplished with the expectation that this platform will be replaced with newer infrastructure. Managed the team that re-engineered the existing hardware to serve in place until 2005. Levis was prepared to invest $4 MM in build-out prior to my arrival. With an additional key hire, the team tuned the platform to negate the upgrade expenditure while improving service levels. Designed future architecture of EDW in conjunction with SAP arrival mid 2004 Managed all corporate and ad-hoc reporting for Levis. Currently serving over 1000 users via Business Objects.

Exec. Director and Chief Architect


Repositioned the company to a new, scalable architecture replacing initial prototype platforms. Obtained buy-in from the CEO and Executive Staff for major initiative in technology spending equal to 50% of current revenue.Defined quarterly goals for the Architecture team, which placed a focus on increased application stability, data quality, and scalable application architectures. These goals were reviewed with each team member to ensure they understood they were critical to the overall goals of the revised technology team.Created the long-term architectural migration plan that focused on technology standardization, systems and software scalability, and operational cost reductions. Implemented a tool based reporting platform (MicroStrategy) yielding faster turnaround of desired information. Prior analyst coding via SQL was replaced with tool generated SQL that did not need to be “productionalized”. This resulted in decreasing time-to market cycles by 50% and increased the quality of the product.Reported to the CEO and served as a member of the executive management team.Responsible for presenting the technology plan to the Board of Investors prior to permanent CTO involvement. This resulted in obtaining Round “C” financing of $40 MM.

1999 - 2000

Senior Industry Consultant


An “industry expert” consulting position that was responsible for meeting with Wireless, Wireline and Cable/Satellite executive management teams. Their technology practices would be reviewed and recommendations made based on their desired end state. An ability to review the business plan and plot the technology solution was crucial. The ability to understand and incorporate the business financials was also a key responsibility of this position. An extensive business and technology background was required, as was the ability to assess the situations very quickly. Recommending a robust environment under budget constraints was critical.

Established relationships with executive management that were determined to be key to the company’s success from an infrastructure point of view. These companies included Sprint, SBC, Ameritech, AT&T Wireless, VarTec and many Tier II and Tier III companies. As a part of establishing these relationships, the executives were billed for my services in the areas of competitive analysis, infrastructure planning, CRM and effective marketing campaigns.

Consulted to PacBell/SBC regarding development of the largest Data Warehouse to date. Delivered industry intelligence on measuring ROI from data warehouses and the convergence of telecommunication medium.

Lead the information development for a major marketing campaign for a dial-around LD provider. This used sophisticated measurements not possible before using the TeraData solution.

Served as Pre-Sales industry expert on new business opportunities.

1983 - 1999



Various positions within IT, International, Strategic Pricing and Marketing.

IT infrastructure planning and implementation of platforms designed to gain a competitive advantage through using detailed transaction-level data. This required effectively storing and accessing over 12 billion transactions /year.

Managed the development of transaction based marketing metrics on over 75 million residential telecommunications customers.

Developed a revolutionary compression system coupled with state-of-the-art hardware to analyze over 1 billion transactions in under 2 hours as an “on demand” based system.

Worked with the senior management team to refine ongoing business goals. Provided input to VP of Consumer Marketing that could not be delivered via standard methods.

Highly visible position that was responsible for overhauling the existing International Customer Data organization. Full responsibility for the budgeting, planning, staffing and ongoing operational efforts of all segmentation related consumer information.

Managed the development of aggressive data modeling and compression software linking mainframe and RISC based UNIX platforms.

Eliminated $4.8 MM in yearly processing expense through migration of platforms.

Developed sophisticated marketing metrics on International customers.

International Consumer Segment liaison to AT&T Wireless Business Unit.






I have consulted to "C" level groups along best practice IT procedures and conducted matrixed group sessions using COBIT and other best practice tools.  Usually the end result was to discover barriers to productivity or develop roadmaps designed to provide a methodology to deploy new technology


Normally on the user end of the technology.  However, recently leading the virtualization of an IT server farm for a manufacturing company in the midwest using VMware VSphere 4.  This will allow the standard environment buildout along COBIT best practice.   I have managed IT infrastructure in the past using Sun HW/SW for very large databases.

Data Warehouse

Doing this function for AT&T before the term was coined.  I have designed, built and managed many EDW installations using various databases and platforms spanning Mainframe - UNIX - Windows technologies. Database tools are DB2, TeraData, Oracle, Informatica, SAS and many others.
