To improve student learning through teacher leadership

My name is Barry Joseph Mernin. I have been a public and private school elementary school teacher for over twenty years. I have been fortunate to teach in quality schools such as Bethesda Elementary of Montgomery County, Maryland, Singapore American School, Canadian Academy of Kobe Japan and Hong Kong International School. I am passionate about my profession and could not imagine myself as anything other than an educator. Teaching children is my greatest joy.Professionally, I want to commit myself to attaining the highest echelon as an educator. Advancing into a leadership position is a priority. I dream of mentoring future teachers in the role of a college professor. I am highly interested in a position as a mentor teacher in mathematics, literacy or distance education. My mission statement helps define my professional goals. To wit:“I will provide a wholesome and upbeat environment for any and all students to succeed. I will teach others to learn to be content. I will demand that students care for the world around them as well as themselves. I will remember what it is like to be a child.”I have a burning desire to become a person of note in the field of teaching. I love my job and want to sway others toward a career in education. I am blessed to have a window of time to be able to commit myself to this endeavor.

My undergraduate, graduate and post graduate experiences have been most pleasant. My bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater Massachusetts has helped me become an effective teacher. My master’s in education with a specialization in Mathematics has helped me become a highly regarded mathematics instructor. My leadership certificate from The Principals' Training Center for International School Leadership has allowed me grow as a professional and directly affect student learning.

I feel blessed with my life.
