Championed ideas and provided technical expertise for companies looking to expand into next generation wireless applications, services, content and devices.  Manage relationship networking between Service Providers and Vendor contacts. Provide guidance on technology and solution strategies needed to penetrate both tier1 and rural service providers.  Engaged with a number of startup companies building business plans to become service providers, MVNOs and Rural Service Providers.

  1. ZTEUSA (VP Technology and Sales Engineering)
    • Built a CTO organization of 20 people focused on Sprints modernization project responsible for all sales engineering, network and technology development interfaces. The team was responsible for technical relationships with Sprint organizations focused on the following network elemnts and service. 
      • 3G/4G -Core - Next Generation MSCe, IMS, HSGW, ASN, MME, PGW SGW 
      • Backhaul - Microwave, Ip-Backhaul,
      • Radio Access Network - 3G/4G CDMA, LTE, WiMax BTSBSC/RNC/RAN
      • Value Added Services - SMSC, MMS, VMS
  2. OneRAN Networks (CTO and Founder)
    • Startup working on acquiring a Femto Cell core to provide a hosted service to rural cellular operators.
  3. White Label Wireless (CTO and Founder)
    • Startup focused on rural coverage solutions working with the Sprint SRA and Roaming groups. 
  4. Enterprise PCS (Business Development/Technology Lead)
    • Startup focused on enterprise wireless applications with Sprint utilizing all IP based Pico and Micro cell technology.

    • Directed all technology support for a team focused on deployable cellular applications.
2008 - 2009

Vice President of America Sales- Mobile Solutions Business Unit

UTStarcom/Star Solutions

Led and built a Sales team of six Account Managers and Sales Engineers. Expanded the focus of the Sales team to cover the CALA region. Doubled the service revenues year after year during a difficult economy. Closed a significant deal with a First Nations community to launch wireless service. Created and executed the sales strategy and direction for Star Solutions after UTStarcom divested the Mobile Solutions Business Unit to a private equity firm.

  • Developed all sales processes that included detailed quoting tools for both product and service, the implementation Siebel (at UTSI) and SalesForce (StarSolutions) CRM tools. Initiated a cold calling campaign to help our marketing group with company awareness.
  • Hired and trained new sales account managers for North America and CALA. Tracked and reported the sales organizations progress against goals on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to both the CEO and Investors.
  • Provided customer input back into product management and marketing. Mentored account managers from initial customer contact through the negotiation of l master purchase/service agreements. 
2006 - 2008

Area Vice President - North America Sales

 Doubled the customer base between 2006 and 2008. Created a service and support service and support model that was adopted by the North American region. Service revenues grew by more than 8X year one and the 2X in year two and year three. Managed major accounts in Canada and the USA as well as new account creation. Recognized for with UTStarcom's Top New Accounts award for expanding IP-CDMA business in 2007.

  • Organized product purchasing, forecasting and development activities with assigned customers and administered all aspects ensuring utmost customer satisfaction. Set up quotes, proposals, demonstrations and presentations based on customer requirements; reported lead metrics in lead database (CRM) and provided both technical and application assistance to clients.
  • Implemented marketing programs, strategies, and new product introduction; expanded and maintained strong relationships with customers' key stakeholders. Presented inputs for product development, motivated sales activities, and accomplish sales target.
2005 - 2006

Area Vice President - CDMA Business Development

Recruited by the President of the Mobile Solutions business unit to focus on the all IP-Mobile solutions. Developed and presented solutions for emergency response applications directly after hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Managed customer requirements from both Sprint and Qualcomm to meet the needs of deployable network infrastructure. Developed a marketing plan for deployable applications utilizing Hummer H2 equipped with network equipment co-branded with Qualcomm’s QGOV division for use at tradeshows. Focused on building relationships with partners and customers explaining and developing the model for the Rural Cellular application. Developed business plans to clearly show the ROI and benefits for using the UTStarcom all IP solutions.

2004 - 2005

Sr. Manager Network Integrity - Network Operations

Sprint Nextel

Built a team of experts on the new FCC outage reporting rules that were released in August of 2004. Developed a database that was used across all of the Sprint network organizations to record, track and report back to the FCC on outages. Formed alliance with FCC sponsored Network Reliability and Interoperability Council VII Focus Group 3A wireless leading the Network Task Group in developing Wireless Network Best Practices.

2002 - 2004

Manager NGN Technology Development - Switch and Radio Systems Development


Directed and expanded a team to evaluate new Next Generation technologies that fit into both wireline and wirelss space. Provided Sales and Product Marketing support for Wireless VoIP solutions designing and presenting solutions to Sprint Customers. Developed a team of engineers to evaluate VoIP Switching and Radio Access platforms for Sprint PCS. Provided guidance and oversight of a business case for an IP based PCS network for campus applications. Built a team and provided technical support to develop system requirements documents for Media Gateways, Media Gateway Controllers, VoIP, VoATM, Signaling Paths, Bearer Path, Alarms, Billing and Operational Measurements.. Developed a Next Generation evaluation test plan. Evaluated Soft Switch vendor responses to Sprint RFI and RFP. Negotiated contracts for both Software and hardware support with Telos/UTStarcom. Oversaw a team of engineers responsible for managing all new Motorola and Samsung software and hardware that went into the Sprint Wireless Network. Responsible for pulling department wide budgets.

2001 - 2002

Manager Lucent Tech. Development - Switch and Radio Systems Development

Led a team of seven project managers and engineers responsible for all new Lucent Software and Hardware on the 5e, ECP, Mod and Mini Cells. Created System Requirements Documents, Field Test Requirements and Field Deployment plans for the Flexant Mobility Server, GMS(CMIII), Release 17 and the 3G Channel Element upgrades. Responsible for planning lab testing and certification on two Lucent MSC’s and one Lucent Gateway as well as the Lucent 3G first market application. Managed project budgeting and resource plans.

1999 - 2001

Manager Network Operations - Engineering and Operations


Led administration of various operational functional teams consisting of supervisors, switch technicians, RF technicians, administrative support, and inventory management specialist. Managed personnel recruitment, training, and career development; oversaw staff performance. Collaborated with local sales, marketing and RF teams to guarantee network quality and performance objectives. Administered all activities including but not limited to VOs, FMAs, and daily maintenance in the Miami MTA. Handled more than $2 million annual budget including budget allocation for salaries and maintenance expenses. Measured and tracked the performance of the CDMA network elements (MTX, BSC, BTS) as well as the performance of the SS7 links and Cell site T1s.

1997 - 1999

Manager CDMA Support - Customer Acceptance


Launched the second MSC in Miami and a successful cell site regroom plan and optimization. Provided all of the support to successfully launch New Orleans, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville. First successful deployment of a 2nd carrier in Miami, First successful dual BSC with intersystem soft handoff in Tampa. Built teams to effectively expand the Miami and Orlando markets with additional BSCs to support the rapid market growth. Led and mentored teams that supported Sprint PCS networks in Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, and New Orleans. Administered the departmental budget.

Senior Technical Support Engineer - CDMA Customer Acceptance


Executed customer acceptance procedures and providing technical support to Sprint PCS in the Miami MTA. Verified the system performance prior to Customer Acceptance of the network. Trained and mentored Sprint Network Operations personnel Performed software upgrades and network expansions.

Captive Lab Coordinator - Nortel (CALA)


Oversaw all Captive Office activities which included lab setup for testing DMS100, 200, 300 and MTX software upgrades and procedures. Designed, built, installed and commissioned all Lab hardware that was moved from Miami Lakes to Sunrise. Generated CFA's for the procurement of new Captive Hardware. Created processes to manage use and maintain Captive office hardware.

Northern Telecom

Responsible for installation, testing and training on Nortel AMPs Cellular systems in Mexico.

Brad has successfully built a consulting company that has provided services ranging from technology evaluation to relationship management.  He has enabled companies to demonstrate their solutions in field trials and has guide a group to become a MVNO.  As the vice president of sales for the Americas, Brad McManus had the oversight of all aspects of sales for UTStarcom Inc.'s mobile solutions business unit in the Americas. Brad McManus has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications field with skills ranging from installation and project management to sales and business development. Brad has an in-depth understanding of the technical challenges faced by both the Network Service Provider as well and the Network Equipment Vendors. Brad McManus began his career with UTStarcom as AVP of Business Development in 2005 and was promoted soon after into an AVP of Sales and finally the VP of Sales for the Americas. Brad McManus' professional career includes an extensive array of telecommunications expertise with more than 12 years at Nortel networks installing, integrating and managing large network deployments for Tier 1 Service Providers in three countries. He spent six years at Sprint where he started managing the Network Operations in Miami and was promoted into a technology development role to oversee the Lucent 3G rollout. Brad McManus was responsible for putting a team of engineers together to review and recommend the next generation switching architecture for Sprint.
