Introducing an all-new VisualCV

James Clift | March 14, 2017

We’ve been hard at work for months designing, building, and testing a new VisualCV experience on web and mobile. Today we’re proud to announce our biggest update yet.

Why the change?

In November, we updated the VisualCV brand to better reflect our company values. While successful, the rebrand was just the first step towards our goal of building the market-leading product. We started from the ground up - rethinking the look, feel, and functionality of VisualCV. We spoke to users. We tested. We built. We’re confident that the new VisualCV is the best way for individuals to build resumes, portfolios, and CVs to land their next career opportunity.

Here’s what you’ll notice when you log in.

A fresh look

Our previous product was functional, but not fun. Searching for a job is a stressful time - we wanted the new design to get people excited about landing their next opportunity.

Updated user interface

We redesigned our user interface to better convey our career optimism. We used brighter colors, more whitespace, and new animations.

Mobile experience

Our new mobile experience mimics the desktop, and works perfectly on any device. We’re confident it’s the best mobile resume/CV editor out there. Now you can even build your portfolio on your phone!

New Features

Along with the new user interface, we added key features based on customer feedback.

Basic editor

The easiest way to add your content to VisualCV, the basic editor lays out the key components of a resume/cv. It walks individuals through the process of adding their resume content and makes it easy to change the order of various components.

Improved formatting & page breaks

We’ve updated formatting options, allowing users to customize colors and font sizes. We’ve also added our number two most requested feature - the ability to manage page breaks in a PDF. Your wish is our command!  pagebreaks

Easily fix mistakes

The history feature allows people to rollback to a previous version of their VisualCV. Everyone makes mistakes - now you don’t have to worry about them. History rollback

To err is human. Sharing a draft of your VisualCV with just 2 colleagues can eliminate up to 70% of typos, grammatical errors, and awkward language in your CV. Watch this feature - we’ve got a lot more planned to help you optimize your VisualCV.

Under the hood

Not only does that new product look better - it works much better. We’ve made massive improvements to our application infrastructure.

Whether on desktop or a mobile device, the new VisualCV is fast. We rewrote the entire application in a new framework (React.js). Every page loads at lightning speed.

The team

Kudos to the team that made this product happen. From user testing to polishing the final pixels - Michael, Chloe, Marc, and Graham’s commitment to detail shows in the final result.

Since announcing our 1 million member milestone, we’ve blown past 1.5 million members. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with an amazing team, building a product that helps people improve their lives.

We’re not finished yet! Now that the new VisualCV is live, we’re already working on new products and features to better help our members build their dream careers.
