Bill Upton is an accomplished manufacturing industry executive, who has served as the president and CEO of Vulcan Threaded Products since 1977. An avid traveler, Bill Upton especially enjoys visiting the Caribbean and Mackinac Island. Located in Lake Huron in northern Michigan, Mackinac Island is a popular tourist destination with a rich history. Originally, Mackinac Island was populated by members of the Ojibwa tribe, who believed it to be the sacred home of the Great Spirit, Gitchie Manitou. Later, French traders moved to the island and operated an active fur-trading business on Mackinac for more than 150 years. In the years following the Civil War, Mackinac’s beauty began to draw a large number of tourists to the area, and the island soon became a popular resort destination. Today, people visiting Mackinac Island can participate in a range of outdoor activities, including horseback riding, hiking, and sailing. Mackinac is also home to a number of natural attractions as well as such popular events as the Lilac Festival, which takes place each year in June.
