Sales Engineer - New England

Savant

As the Sales Engineer for Savant, I worked with new and exiting integrators within my territory to provide technical sales support, with the goal of expanding sales of Savant product line.

Technical Sales Support Items Included:

  • System Design for new integrators or advanced designs for existing dealers
  • Assist with advanced feature setup such as triggers or back end automation
  • Conduct trainings with integrators on specific items needed for their business model such as Commercial Theme builder, Profile Building, and Advanced Trigger building.
  • Deliver sales related communications to integrators on new product releases, features, and sales promotions
  • Deliver technical related communications to integrators on feature support and compatibility.
  • Provide onsite technical sales support with end users
  • Assist integrators and TAC with emergency support issues and escalations

Non-Integrator tasks included:

  • Provide Beta software and hardware testing on prerelease items to provide feedback to Product and Software teams

Senior Project Manager

Advanced Communication Technologies

On a daily basis I managed between 10-20 active projects and was responsible for a total of 40 residential and commercial automation projects.  I would manage the projects from start to finish including coordination between contractors, homeowners, architects, and Interior decorators.  Projects could be as large as 20,000 sq. ft home with full Savant automation system including, Lutron lighting, security cameras, Savant Climate control, DSC Security system, distributed Savant Audio Video system.  I also managed the schedule for install crews ,along with any special access conditions, and coordinating with other trades that may be needed such as electricians and or carpenters.  I conducted initial walkthroughs with clients before the project starts, along with several more walkthroughs throughout the progress of the project.  At the end of the project I completed a walkthrough with the client again to review that the project is completed to their satisfaction along with conducting a training for the client and users.

Other Responsibilities include:

  • Providing advanced Savant programming for special automation situations, custom profiles, and commercial board room themes customization
  • Provide first level technical support for install and service technicians
  • Provide remote support for clients with installed system, often using remote access software to login to a clients automation system, lighting system, or network to resolve any issues they may be experiencing
  • Attend vendor trainings to keep current on new and upcoming products
  • Utilize the vendor trainings to create and conduct internal ACT trainings to our technicians. 
  • Review all proposals and change orders for design integrity
  • Manage ACT's wired and wireless network, phone system and voicemail
  • Manage ACT's Google for Business e-mail, calendar, and cloud storage services
  • Purchase, deploy and test new products before being specified or installed to ensure operation meets ACT's reliability standards

Installation Technician

Advanced Communication Technologies

Responsible for installation of home theater and distributed audio systems. I would begin working on the project at the wiring phase and continue through the completion of the project up to and including training the client.  Installs ranged in size from basic TV installs, up to a full house with 20+ zones of audio and 10+ TVs, with phone systems and computer networks.  Some installs that were retrofit projects required research on cable paths in existing walls and execution of the cabling with the least impact on the existing finished walls and ceilings.  I also conducted service calls on existing installs and troubleshot and resolved problems efficiently.

Skills utilized: cutting sheetrock to install speakers and snake wires in walls, install TV on wall brackets, program phone systems, program universal remotes, setup clients wired and wireless networks, programmed distributed audio systems and sources.

I managed commercial tel/data wiring projects for a union electrical contractor.  Projects consisted of college dorms, commercial office spaces, medical research facilities, and hospitals.  Responsibilities consisted of assembling and sending out bids packages for projects, pulling permits from local municipality for project work, attending project meetings, price shopping material needed, securing a foreman and crew of appropriate size from the union hall, completing as built drawings and documentation, and generating change orders as needed.

Installation Technician

I worked as an installation technician for security, fire alarm and access control systems.  I would work on new installs along with service calls as I was dispatched.  I would conduct annual smoke alarm tests for area grade schools.  I would repair and maintain grade schools synchronized clock systems. While enrolled at RIT I was the main service technician for the on campus security and fire alarm systems.
