Summary

To put it in the simplest terms possible, the ability to ferret out a story and tell it in a way that engrosses the reader is the reason I have spent the last 10 years as an editor. As well, I am enchanted with what the human mind can dream into being and, in turn, bring to life on the printed or digital page when fostered in the creative environment of magazine publishing. In addition to journalism and publishing, an extensive background in advertising, public relations and politics makes multi-tasking, attention to detail, organizational skills and deadlines second nature.

Major responsibilities include developing the editorial content for two monthly publications -- Luxury Las Vegas magazine and Las Vegas New Homes Guide -- and managing a team of freelance writers, photographers and illustrators. Other responsibilities include story development, feature writing, art direction, photo shoot management, editing, budget management, blogging as alter ego Truly Scrumptious, and managing website's editorial content as well as social media presence.

    -Developed Luxury Las Vegas magazine from a hodge-podge publication of little credibility into Southern Nevada's premiere lifestyle publication by implementing and maintaining a consistent brand vision that resulted in increased brand recognition and sales.

    -Developed monthly themes for Luxury Las Vegas' editorial calendar for the first time since its founding.

    -Created regular departments (i.e. celebrity feature, chef profile, food & wine roundup, culture guide, automotive column, etc.) to elevate the magazine's editorial content and offer readers familiar editorial content to look forward to monthly. 

    -Cohesive and expanded editorial led to an increase in sales for the publication and therefore an increase in the number of editorial pages.

    -Luxury Las Vegas was awarded prestigious General Excellence award by the Nevada Press Assocation in 2010.

    -In 2011 was personally awarded second place by Nevada Press Association for Best Column, Luxury Las Vegas.

State Senator Barbara Cegavske/Nevada State Legislature

State Senate Attache, Nevada State Legislature – 72nd Session

Managed the daily activities of a senate office. Main responsibilities included scheduling, constituent correspondence, bill tracking, policy research, and press and lobbyist contact.

Campaign Coordinator, Nevada State Senate 8 Campaign

Handled day-to-day duties of a state senate campaign in Clark County District 8 including fundraising, budgeting, volunteer management, coalition building, media, and candidate’s scheduling. Wrote and coordinated 17 direct mail pieces during the campaign, placed candidate’s print advertising, and handled quick response communications. Upon winning this election, moved to Carson City as Senator's Attache during the 72nd Legislative Session (see above).

KSR Advertising/Snapdragon Interactive

Account Services Director

Managed client services including everything from web-based and multi-media projects to comprehensive advertising and marketing campaigns. Duties entailed developing overall strategy for client projects including creative, content and design services. Clients included Marriott, UNLV’s Boyd School of Law, Inamed, and the Clark County Dept. of Comprehensive Planning. Generated the structure to bring web-based applications in-house with the implementation of KSR’s web division, Snapdragon Interactive.

Copywriter/Public Relations Director

Responsibilities included developing public relations strategies and implementing those efforts for a variety of clients. Acted as liaison between agency’s clients and the media; organized and implemented grand openings and other special media events; developed and implemented strategic marketing campaigns and branding initiatives; and wrote and edited copy, both creative and technical, for radio, tv, print, and web.

Co-managed the national account for Black & Decker’s consumer power tools, lawn and garden, and accessories divisions. Duties included implementation of account programs, served as day-to-day contact with client, developed full range of written materials, and media contacts to create news stories and media opportunities.

Publications Coordinator

Medical & Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland (Med Chi)

Med Chi, a non-profit, trade association for physicians in Maryland, offers education, legislation, and dissemination of information to the state’s physicians. Managed all Med Chi publications including the monthly Maryland Medical Journal (MMJ), membership directory, meeting programs, exhibitor prospectus, brochures and flyers. Researched and wrote feature articles, speeches, and press releases.
