Nashville resident Benjamin Perlin is an experienced photographer, using both film and digital cameras to express himself through the craft in such formats as cyanotypes. An advocate for the revival of film photography, Benjamin Perlin shoots with film cameras like the 1955 Zeiss Ikon Contessa and Nikon F2, and develops photographs himself in a darkroom.
In addition to the scientific knowledge needed for the darkroom development process, Perlin shows a proficiency in other aspects of science and technology as a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Middle Tennessee Robotics Club. Perlin has played a key role in building the electronics for an SAE racecar, and has been a member of the Robotics Club for eight years. He also enjoys a few more athletic activities, like sailing and karate.
When he is not honing his photography or robotics skills, Benjamin Perlin works at Nashville’s Habitat for Humanity Restore, helping to unload and sort donations and provide customer service in the shop. He also spends time at the Tennessee State Veterans' Home in Murfreesboro, keeping the veterans company by listening to their stories and playing card games.
