K-5 Instructional Coach

University Prep Academy

As an instructional coach, I provide guidance and assistance to teachers in the form of professional development workshops, grade level meetings, classroom observations, model lessons, and more.

Another of my main functions is to help teachers at my school transition to the Common Core State Standards, by both providing professional development workshops as well as assisting with both unit and lesson planning in all subject areas (reading, writing, math, social studies, and science).

I also lead regular data meetings with grade level teams to analyze unit and interim data, guiding them in strategic planning around increasing student achievement.

In addition, I will be working to provide mentoring, support, and orientation workshops to newly hired teachers.

All of this work takes place in an urban setting, with over 85 percent of students receiving free and reduced lunch.

University Prep Academy

I taught both fourth and fifth grades, all subjects, during my tenure. In my teaching, I strove to provide a 21st Century learning environment that was student centered, collaborative and connected to the world.  I helped students achieve this through the use of educational technology--podcasts, blogs, wikis, digital movies, and more. My students participated in collaborative projects with classrooms across the United States and in countries such as Turkey, Russia, and Taiwan.

In addition, I served in the following roles:

  • Grade Level Team Leader--5th Grade
  • member of School Leadership Team
  • member of district Good-to-Great Team
  • member of District Technology Committee
  • member of School Curriculum Team charged with alignment to Common Core standards
