A Senior Litigation Partner and Head of the Litigation Department at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP from 1999 to 2011, Mr. Ostrager has spent nearly 40 years with the firm, serving as lead counsel in numerous high profile cases, including Andersen Consulting v. Andersen Worldwide, Epstein v. Matsushita, Travelers Indemnity Co. v. Bailey, Korea Deposit Insurance Corp. v. Hanwha, et al., and Silverstein v. Swiss Re, among other major cases. To date he has successfully litigated to verdict five cases involving more than $1 billion. Widely regarded as one of the best regional and national litigators, Barry Ostrager has appeared on Legal 500’s list of the top 10 trial lawyers in the U.S. multiple times, was named Business Trial Lawyer of the Year by Chambers USA in 2006 and a litigation star for general commercial and insurance litigation by Benchmark Litigation, and appears on countless peer-reviewed lists, including those published by Chambers and Martindale-Hubbell. Barry Ostrager’s professional affiliations include the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, Federal Bar Council, American Law Institute, American Bar Association, and New York City Bar Association. In addition to his commitment to Simpson Thacher, Barry Ostrager serves as the President of New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc., and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Racing Association. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York. In addition, he volunteers his time as a member of the Board of Sanctuary for Families. When not working, Barry Ostrager, who received his B.A. and M.A. from City College and J.D. from the New York University School of Law, enjoys spending time with his family and running marathons.
