A cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Barry Levet serves with the Schumacher Group, an emergency medical management firm in Lafayette, Louisiana. He has occupied his current role since 2006. Prior to this, Dr. Levet fulfilled surgical and emergency medicine-oriented positions with a variety of Louisiana- and Texas-based medical organizations, including the Glenwood Regional Medical Center, located in West Monroe, Louisiana, and the Brownwood Regional Medical Center, in Brownwood, Texas. Dr. Levet presently practices in Louisiana.Dr. Barry Levet holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Louisiana’s Tulane University, where he graduated with honors in 1986. While he studied at Tulane, Dr. Levet joined the Premedical Honor Society and acted as an Emergency Medical Technician for the New Orleans Health Department, as a Research Assistant in the Genetics/Developmental Embryology Lab, and as an Officer of the Tulane Emergency Medical Service. He subsequently completed his Doctor of Medicine through the Tulane University School of Medicine. After he received his medical degree, Dr. Barry Levet proceeded to receive extensive additional training across the areas of general surgery, orthopedics, and cardiothoracic surgery.A seasoned physician and researcher, Dr. Barry Levet has contributed to numerous professional presentations, books, and articles. He delivered a lecture entitled “The Incidence of Degenerative Cervical Disc Disease Requiring Operative Intervention Above or Below a Previous Anterior Cervical Fusion” at the Cervical Spine Research Society, and his poster presentation “Complications Associated with Nasoduondenal Tube Placement: A Case Report and Literature Review” was accepted at the 66th Annual Southeastern Surgical Conference. Dr. Levet also holds the Rufus H. Alldredge Award, bestowed for excellence in orthopedic surgery.
