Barry Baskin has spent over three decades in numerous notable positions as a law specialist and expert Superior Court Judge serving the greater region of Contra Costa County. Born in South Africa, Barry Baskin began his academic career at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa where he studied law. In concurrence with his academic studies, Baskin served a mandatory five-year apprenticeship as a Law Clerk with Baskin & Partners. Barry Baskin passed the bar exam at age 22 upon receiving his Baccalaureus Procurationis from the University. Barry Baskin remained with Baskin & Partners, a third generation law firm founded by his grandfather in 1919 for an additional seven years as Managing Partner. Baskin conducted over 100 bench trials in a multitude of family law and civil cases. Barry Baskin served a number of distinguished clients, including a national bank and several publicly held corporations, such as Nedbank Limited, Barclays National Bank, and South African Savings Bank. Following his tenure with Baskin & Partners, Judge Barry Baskin took his experience and skills westward to San Francisco, where he joined Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro as an Associate, litigating complex business dealings with a special focus on anti-trust matters and intellectual property rights. In 1989, Barry Baskin became a Partner of Farrow, Bramson, Baskin & Plutzik in Walnut Creek, California. Baskin remained in his position with Farrow, Bramson, Baskin & Plutzik until 2002, when former Governor Gray Davis appointed Baskin Judge of Contra Costa’s Superior Court. Today, Barry Baskin remains Judge of the Superior Court in Contra Costa County, acting as a civil fast track trial judge. Barry Baskin undertook various roles within the Superior Court, presiding over various Family Law and Complex Civil cases. Judge Barry Baskin also serves as Faculty for New Judge orientation, having taught Ethics since 2006. Barry Baskin is a member of the American Bar Association and the Contra Costa County Bar Association. He also holds bar admissions and memberships from the Supreme Court of South Africa, the United States Supreme Court, and the State Bar of California. In addition to his extensive resume as a legal mind, Judge Barry Baskin spent a decade as President of the Warren Eukel Teacher Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of teaching in Contra Costa County that was founded by Judge Baskin’s former law firm. Judge Barry Baskin’s organization granted 4 awards of $10,000 every year to recognize outstanding teachers in the community.
